Just heard Salt and Pepper on the radio, and it reminded me of early high school discos, anyone else got any songs that spring to mind for the same reason?

Just the usual school Christmas party drivel...
"Love will tear us apart" by Joy Division (classic song!)

Oh my god! i remember dancing to that in the school playground (which was unfortunatly next to a busy street so everyone walking past could see us!)
We also did a dance to S club 7, bring it all back for our D.A.R.E graduation!0 -

24 years just waiting for a chance, to tell her how I feel and maybe get a second glance, now i'd better get used to not living next door to Alice... Alice... who the ahem is Alice.
We will rock you

Re:School Disco
I feel sorry for Alice. She obviously had a stalker.0 -
Re:School Disco
My school discos usually had the following - up to 1978
Any fast Abba - Dancing Queen usually
All the glam rock - T Rex, Bowie, Gary Glitter, Sweet
Donna Summer - I Feel Love
Commodores - Three Times A Lady
10cc - I'm Not In Love
Van McCoy - The Hustle and The Shuffle
Most stuff by all the Osmond and Jackson clans
And so on.

Re:School Disco
Would now be a good time to bring David Cassidy into the mix?
He wasn't at my school disco, but I can't rave about music without him by my side...0 -

Never flipping heard of it!Baggybooks wrote:Malcolm wrote:Van McCoy - The Hustle and The Shuffle
Classic.
Talking of stalkers, there was a programme on a while ago where Stuart Copeland - drummer with The Police - was talking about their hit single, "Every Breath You Take". It amuses him/them that people have this song played at their weddings and associate it as a classic love song when it's actually about a stalker. Quoted from Wikipedia;
"The track was written during the collapse of Sting's marriage to Frances Tomelty; the lyrics are the words of a sinister, controlling character, who is watching "every breath you take/every move you make"[1]. However, this fact has often gone unnoticed, or is ignored, and hence the song is often taken as a love song".
He also spoke about the time he once met John Lennon and that he (Lennon) was an awful person in real life and certainly doesn't deserve the immortal and heroic post-death status his legend now carries.

Re:School Disco
Can I add.... from the early 90's.
Zoe - Sunshine on a rainy day. Definite cheer factor on this one.
Yazz - the only way is up (heard this last week and she has a way better voice than I remembered)
Rythmn is a dancer - can't remember the artists name.
Crash test dummies - Mm Mm Mm ( I think)
Spin Doctors - 2 Princes.
All played frequently along with Salt n Pepa at my school discos. In fact think I got my first snog to Rythmn is a Dancer..... memories.0 -
Re:School Disco

Re:School Disco
We know we're getting old when we hear cover versions of songs that we can still remember from when they were the originals a la Atomic Kitten's "Eternal Flame"! Even worse, we turn into our parents when we start criticising them!
Where's me walking stick?

Re:School Disco
The ultimate snog - school disco, 5 songs later and 3 pints of saliva after... we finished. To the anger of watching teachers who tried in vain to move my hand from the girls bottom, I had the eyes closed and thought it was mates messing around so I was giving them the middle finger.... to my shock when I left the 'Embrace' the stoney glare of the headmaster.... oh the memories :-)0 -
Re:School Disco
Jamie, maybe you should go to Helen's smutty party and buy yourself a leash, you animal!
Most embarrassing thing I ever did at school was when I was getting my O' level certificates in our old massive assembly hall which was packed full of parents, pupils and teachers. I stuck my tongue out big style to a couple of mates in the front row who were messing around, but the entire audience obviously thought it was to them and seemed to gasp as one. I went beetroot red, felt about one inch tall and couldn't leave fast enough.
