Registering online for CIS
System

I'm trying to get online authorisation to file CIS returns for a client. i get to the screen where it asks for their employers reference but then it just hangs for ages before taking me back to the 'log in' screen saying that I've been logged out due to a long period of inactivity.
Has anyone been sucessful yet? Do you think their server's just too busy now?

Hi Jodie
Have a look at Accounting Web. Apparently Jo Public can't verify people until after April

Re:Registering online for CIS
Hi Jodie
I haven't got as far as trying to get online authorisation for any clients as an agent yet. I did manage to get through the first step as the client rather than as an agent, but have got to wait for an activation pin to arrive by post before I can go any further.
I rang the helpline on Tuesday to get a subby verified as was told they are currently only offering a limited service at the moment as there is problems with their computer system!!!!

Re:Registering online for CIS
well after the obligitary 2 half hour phone calls it turns out that it's my computer that's got the problem (internet explorer 7 - you would have thought it should be compatible surely?!) so I've just tried on another computer and it's worked fine.
on the verification of subbies - i've phoned 3 times now - first lady asked for the CONTRACTOR's UTR and then asked for his NI number. i didn't have this to hand & was a bit miffed that they'd asked for it, so i hung up & phoned back & the next person didn't ask for it. I commented that he hadn't asked for it & he was really rude & said 'why would i need that?' in a really sarcy manner. then today i rang again & the lady asked for loads of details about the contractor (utr, address, PAY ref & accounts office ref). Doesn't seem like they know what they're doing yet...
glad i'm not the only one having problems with it0 -
Re:Registering online for CIS
As far as I understand it, they should ask for contractor name, utr ref and accounts office reference. Then they should ask for sub-contractor name, utr ref and NI number.
I did this and it was all going well, then I was told that the subbie was not registered, so I should take 40%. OK, but then I was told that they system might not be accurate and I should check with the subbie whether he has registered and give them a ring back.
Not quite going to plan is it HMRC?
How can we advise CIS contractors on a system that doesn't work properly yet?0
