What do you feel is a reasonable salary to ask for when you are AAT qualified?

It would depend on how many years experience you have prior to AAT.

I have had nearly 5 years in accounts environments, what do you think a decent salary for me would be?

    Re:Salary Increase

Depends on too many variables to say. eg. What area of the country are you in, what sector you work in, what kind of work you actually do. What I can do is relate my experiences.

I was taken on at £11,000 as a trainee general accounts assistant in commerce/industry with no experience in May 04, and started the AAT that September.
I had an increase of £1,000 in October 04 (six month probation)
A second increase of £1,000 in Sept 05 (after completing AAT Foundation)
A third of £750 in Sept 06 (after completing AAT intermediate)

I also have a 3% monthly bonus, which is entirely on my manager's opinion whether I deserve it or not. (I always have, some others have not) This is instead of any inflation-based increase in annual salary.

So my basic pay is £13,750 but £14,160 if you count bonuses.

Sorry, forgot to say that that's the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire area, and I haven't included financial support for AAT study and day-release.

And that I have handed my notice in, so I'll be gone by the end of May anyway...

    Re:Salary Increase

I look at it a bit differently. I know how much I am going to offer as a salary when I recruit someone for a vacancy. To be honest, certain roles I wouldn't invite an applicant to an interview unless they had the AAT or were studying towards it. Depending on where they were in their qualification may mean a range of Salary plus £0 to £500. Having a professional qualification says an awful lot about an applicant, however ability to do the job means a lot more. I have known very clever people who can study and pass exams with top grades but who really cannot organise their day to day tasks. If a promotion is in the air, it is the person with the best ability who gets the job, and this usually means the person with the qualification.
