I am so tired. I don't want to do anything tonight. But I've promised I will take the beginners group running tonight.

Riding bikes and swimming don't seem to mix, the water plays havoc with the grease on the chain plus pool attendants tend to get upset at you coming off the top board on your bike

Helen has the best idea, horizontal P.E in front of the idiot box. Unfortunately I have a parish council meeting until about 10.30.

Paul - you need to join a Tri club - running, swimming and cycling.

We have lots of members in the running club that do it. Super fit guys...

Unfortunately not. I have to lead from the front, so to speak.

They set the pace, but when they flag, I begin to flog...

If you're in a club, you'll get motivation from the others.

I don't want to go tonight, but because I have that commitment, I will.

I know when I get back I will want to collapse, but I can eat that extra Aero bar...

£10 per annum - not too much.

We're sociable, but don't force people to talk. See lots of hand signals!

It does go quiet when we attack a hill!

I remember a few months back when I was struggling with fitness and ran with another girl for a few miles.

I said afterwards that I was really struggling. She reminded me that I hadn't stopped talking the whole time we were out and that she was the one struggling because she couldn't get enough puff to reply!

Dont they say though, if you cant talk when your running, your running too fast or something for your own ability.

    Exactly.

The idea is that you learn to control your breathing.

Then, in a race - you have extra lung capacity to go faster.

    Re:Study Buddy

Its a struggle from the start at the moment. But I also know I need to get past it. A few distance runners I have spoke to have all said, the first two or three mile kills them, once the get past it, they feel like they are flying, up to the next wall, depending how fit they are.

    I would definitely agree. That's why I don't do 5k races.

However, if you warm up properly it shouldn't be a problem.

How do you warm up 'properly'?

Was that because she couldn't get enough puff or she couldn't get a word in edgeways?

    Slow jog, stretching etc.

    Takes at least 10 minutes.

I don't bother - but you do risk injury by just storming off. I've never stormed anywhere, so it's not an issue!

Farmer G - taking part is the real challenge!

You have to stretch really well otherwise the warm up does nothing! Do the jogging and any other cardiovascular activities you have planned and then stretch

    Re:Study Buddy

My gym instructor taught me to do the stretches before doing any activities otherwise you risk torn muscles because they are cold, then to do the same stretches afterwards whilst warming down

    Re:Study Buddy

I can't really explain why but it's simply that the jog warms your muscles up ready for stretching, if you pull a muscle after jogging for one minute you're doing it wrong! So if you warm your muscles up and then stretch them they're much more prepared for the long run.

But you're right about the cool down, you should slow down to a light jog and then stretch back the other way. So you're doing the exact same thing in reverse.

That's the same advice as for running.

It is actually nice stretching afterwards, because you are warm and the muscles seem to enjoy it!

I know what you mean. It's also nice knowing you've exercised well and can have another Aero bar!

As long as I keep them in single figures, it's fine. Isn't it????

Look guys. It's time to confess.

I drink too much coffee and eat too much chocolate.

I've cut down on the cups of coffee, but increased the number of spoons of coffee in each cup.

    Now that is creative accountancy!
