Hi guys,

Does anybody work in Local Government and considering studying for the CIPFA qualification after AAT. If so are you doing the AAT Fast Track Route or the normal route? The CIPFA is not as commonly known as ACCA/CIMA because it specialises in Public Finance Accounts so i'm finding it hard to decide what the best route to take is.

Hi, yes I work in Local Gov and my employer will only pay for CIPFA but we are not allowed to do the fast track we have to do the whole thing. I would have liked to do CIMA as I enjoy costing and believe this has quite alot to do with it, although I dont think I could do another 4 years!!!! I cant decide weather to go on to CIPFA or not I just want to get through these exams first!!

    Hiya,

I work in Local Government and did the AAT Fast Track option with CIPFA. I am sitting my final papers this June.

I started CIPFA in August 2005 straight after I finished AAT in the June, so it has only taken me 2 years which is a bonus.

The only thing I have found is that you don't get taught statistics at any point but they could come up in the Final Case Study examination. As I have been on the Case Study course at college they issue practice questions and notes and the books are on the website, its just whether you want to learn it yourself.

Also, I have heard that not many courses run for this module, as there isnt much interest. As you get exemptions from 2 papers anyway for having AAT, it just saves you 6 months. This doesnt matter if you are studying from home though.

    Hope this helps
    Sarah

    Hi there

I'm working in a local charity and it is similar to local gov.

I'm looking to start my CIPFA too. I found it is very difficult to find a venue to do the fast track from AAT except for distance learning.

It shouldn't take you 4 years to complete the CIPFA only 2 1/2 years or 2 years if you do AAT fast track route.

I really wanted to do CIMA too, but my employers have made it clear that I will get more financial support if I study for CIPFA. I don't know what to do.
