Hi All,
I need help with a manual bookkeeping question. As the exercises are in stages some of the aspects of manual bookkeeping havent been covered yet....As far as i am aware, in these questions there is no use of control accounts and no cash book - its only Nominal, Purchases & Sales Leedgers that are used.
The following enteries are what i have been given but when i enter them where i think the should go i am always £4856 out on the trial balance, what am i doing wrong, the balances i get for the trial balance are always £74985 cr & 70129 dr:
-Cash sales paid directly into bank £3,500
-paid £2500 on account to clifford
-cash sales paid directly into bank £1659
-cash sales paid directly into bank £2689
-cash sales paid directly into bank £1163
-paid rent for 3 months by cheque £4200
-sewell buys goods on credit £80
-goods worth £145 sold on credit to esther mainwaring
-cash sales paid directly into bank £1543
-cash sales £3,500
-naomi gave her sales assistant a cheque for her wages £750
-purchased £2500 worth of stock from clifford ltd on credit
-esther mainwaring returned £35 of her purchases which were surplus to requirements
-paid bank charges £59
-sewell sent a cheque for £80 goods purchased
-cash sales £4856 were put into the cash till
-all money in the cash till was banked
-the final sales taken prior to christmas amounted to £850, naomi closed the shop and decided to take the £850 for her own personal drawings.
Please can someone help me with it as i thought i understood where everything goes but obviously i am not doing something right - it must be to do with the cash sales for £4856. I think

Re:Can Anyone Help With A Manual Bookkeeping Question?
I think you're only doing a one-sided journal to the sales in respect of the cash sales of £4,856 - you will need to debit the cash account for your trial balance to agree, perhaps.
Kind regards
