Hello this is a question to all who have just finished their technician year.
Basically - how much harder is technician compared to intermediate? I've found intermediate quite a big jump from foundation so is technician another huge jump, is it loads harder?!

Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
I wouldn't necessarily say harder, but there is a lot more to remember, but some of it is going over last years work anyway.0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
I'd agree there's certainly a lot more to get through at Technician but I don't think anything is that much harder. If you did OK at Intermediate and put in the work it should be fine.0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
Thanks very much for the replies. When you say a lot more to get through - is that because you have exams in December as well as June? I'm not that clear on how the subjects are spread out in tech level. How long do you get to do your project? Thanks again.0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
Hi
We were given until the end of May to complete the project (get it done out of the way as soon as possible - its such a relief!)
I sat DFS in DEC,and PEV & PCR this week. I also had 2 auditing and cash management skills test throughout the year.
I opted out of BTC & PTC.
Overall there are alot of formulas and ratios to remember and you have to learn the new accounting standards (IAS's)for DFS.
There is also a lot of report writing in the exams.

Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
I wouldn't say that it is much harder than intermediate, the exams do not have a lot of questions so you have to make sure you have mastered the main elements.
We do techician over 2 years. did PCR, PEV and DFS last June and then BTC and PTC this week.BTC and PTC are easier than the cash and audit papers. We didn;t do any exams in Dec cos if you fail the tax ones you have to re-learn a new tax year for the june ones.0 -

That's interesting, I opted for Cash Management and Audit rather than the tax ones as I have nothing what so ever to do with Tax in my job rather than them being easy. Ummm, if the Tax ones aren't so bad then, I might do them as an extra. Anyone have any thoguhts on this?0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
This is just my opinion. you have to be good at number crunching and there are a few rates to remember, but other than that they are ok. i know people who have done cash/credit and found it harder.0 -

You have to take a tax unit though dont you?0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
No, you must sit PEV, PCR & DFS, you then must pick 2 others.0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
Then again, the cash and audit units are assessed by skills test, which gives a lot more flexibility. Doing both the tax option means fitting in five exams, which is hard if you're doing this in one year. I can't say for audit but I wouldn't say that PTC was easier than cash management. In addition, cash also covers quite a bit of stuff that turns up in PCR and DFSdantheman1 wrote:.BTC and PTC are easier than the cash and audit papers.

Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
Dan says BTC and PTC are easier than CMCC and auditing. All a matter of opinion.
I passed auditing (found it quite simple as it is mostly common sense) and was glad because it allowed me to fail BTC, which I couldn't get my head around.
Didn't take CCMC, passed PTC first time as I enjoyed it more.
I think Technician is a lot harder than Foundation, which seems so easy after 3 years!0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
I agree auditing was jsut a lot of common sense, cash management was also similar.
Found it a lot less stressful as they are skills tests and not exams0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
Having done business tax, personal tax and cash management I can tell you that there is a world of difference between the taxes and cash management. Our college taught cash management in 4 days (inc taking the skills test) and 6 days each for each tax and we had to put in so much extra work for the tax.
Maybe it's just me but the tax papers were definitely harder.

Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
I totally agree Annette, I found CMCC more of an inconvenience than a challenge if that makes sense.0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
ive done all the units sadly i had an awful tutor for tax which made it hard
i found auditing the easiest
if thinking of doing tax i recommend starting with personnal tax first ( others may disagree so those from intermediate reading get more than one opinion )0 -
Re:Intermediate compared to Technician level
I agree, I sat CMCC, BTC and PTC, by far the easiest was CMCC, which is a lot of common sense. I also found this more stressful than the exams, just because you have to go back over this again, to correct any mistakes. Which I feel just
makes the whole process so drawn out. I actually enjoyed PTC today, found it a nice paper. BTC was so much harder, but I think this is because I have had to teach myself both tax papers, and probably didn't spend enough time on it. (Was stressing about DFS though).
Technician isn't necessarily a lot harder, it's just about the amount of time you are willing to put in. 8)
