    Re:ECR

I got machine A cos it had lower costs, cant remember what the difference was but the were both negative one thousand and something.

Did anyone use the direct labour hours for the allocation table or was that a red herring??

    Hello Guys
I put B for the answer to last question on ECR and i so know it wrong, because it was NPC not NPV, and we have never even touched on Cost! So..... think appeal is in order!

    Anyone else have this prob?

    Re:ECR

Which allocation do you mean? Do you mean the huge table where you have to put all the fixed overheads into it? I think I used the net book value and Sq meter ones, labour was already allocated. I then used the miles to do the absorption calculation did anyone else do this?

    Re:ECR

Yeah thats the one the huge table. Where all the figures were for NBV and planned mileage there was direct labour hours, i didnt use this to apportion anything didnt no if that was right. I used NBV and sq meters also.

I also used the planned miles for the costing, i thought it told you to use that?? Might be wrong... :)

    Re:ECR

Yes I got a difference of ร‚ยฃ56,000 between Machine A and B - I decided that as Machine A incurred less costs that was the machine to go for.

    Re:ECR

I had a horrible time with this paper. I put lifo instead of avco, first. The question on limiting factors was so confusing and the last question on investment appraisal was like nothing I'd seen before. After a long time thinking about it and many crossings out/tipex what a mess, I added the discounted costs and arrived at an answer! What is the passmark?

    Re:ECR

Not sure if I got the stock card right, I said AVCO but many of my classmates went for LIFO.

The end of the paper nearly caught many of us out but going for machine A was (as far as I was concerned) the right choice.

It might have cost 150k more in ititial capital outlay but the running costs were about 300,000 (unadjusted) less.

Hi We have never touched on NPC we have only ever done NPV so i agree a appeal is in order :)

    Re:ECR

Yes I definitely agree, not once did we cover NPC. Every past paper we did, and I think we did every one back to 2003, was NPV. I couldn't find it in the book either. An appeal for this question should be in placed.

    Re:ECR

We were taught that LIFO would never come up in an exam yet I too went for LIFO as it did work out to the penny but the AVCO method ther was rouding up to do, I think as long as the workings were correct for which ever method chosen it should be ok.I struggled with the investment appraisal as there were no sales or income so how can there be cashflows?

    Re:ECR

I found the stock card threw me a bit as it could be either AVCO or LIFO, how mean is that at the start of an exam!

    Re:ECR

I found it difficult to decide if stock was LIFO or AVCO.

Also the last question was a negative value. This was never detailed in any of the textbooks or the past papers held on AAT website.

    Re:ECR

    What can we do then!?
    How do we appeal!

In reply to the rets of it.... i put LIFO!
Cos AVCO as stated needed rounding up!
LIFO got it to the penny but yes when i came out of exam, a guy told me u shud never have LIFO in an exam!
Well whats done is done, and nothing i can do about it!
    APART form the last question!
Come on guys lets do it!

    Re:ECR

    I put LIFO as well

    because

    o/b 22000 x0.30 6600
    DR 100000 x0.0.32 32440
    CR (80000)x0.32 (25600)
    left 22000 @0.3 6600
    20000 @0.32 6840
    DR 50000 x0.33 16276
    CR (50000)x0.33 (16276)
    (20000)x0.32 (6840)
    (10000)x0.3 (3000)
    B/c 12000 x0.3 3600

    Re:ECR

Yes I remember it because I did it again when I got home just to make sure because I was wonder that the 2 issuing were at same amount(same rate...?)

    ob 22000 x 0.3 = 6600
    DR 100000 x0.32 = 32440
    CR (80000) x0.32 =(25600)?
    left 42000 x0.32 = 13440
    DR 50000 x0.32 = 16276
    CR (80000) x0.32 = (25600)?
    B/C 12000 ? = 4116

    Re:ECR

In the ECR Exam in the Net Present cost section,

can you enter the figures as positive. Or do you have to enter the figures as negetive.

    Re:ECR

    yes you can

you discount them as NPV and at the end you add them up with the cost = net present cost
then u compare the 2 machine to see which one is lower cost....machine A got a lower cost in this case

I do not know...I may be wrong...?

Thanks for that, I think I got it correct because I
    added them up.

    Fingers cross.

By the way does any one have a rough idea for this pass mark per section on this particular paper.
