Re:ECR
you are quite right. I think the AAT always states that competence must be demostrated in order to acheive a pass mark.
Probably the pass mark could depend no the difficulty level of paper.
Unlike A Levels and GCSE Papers, AAT Papers should have little variation between previous years papers and maintain the same level of tasks and language within the scope of the syllabus.0 -
Re:ECR
I am relieved to see that so many other students found the first and last questions in the ECR exam both confusing and unfair.
Due to the same figures in the first part of the first question, the answer could have been either AVCO or LIFO - I guessed AVCO but spent many hours practicing and revising and felt that a 'guess' was not a true reflection of my acquired knowledge.
The last question, I felt, was unfairly misleading and confusing and I feel quite cheated that all my revision was wasted. Why did we get a question on a subject area that was not taught within the course. If Net Present Cost is to be examined, then it should be included within the syllabus - I came straight out of the exam and looked in my textbooks to try and work out what the answer should have been and obviously found no reference to it. I will be gutted if I don't pass!! End of moan!!0 -

Above is a link to the exam feedback. The feedback which is a 'how much did you like this question type' of feedback. After the feedback there is an e-mail address which you can use to give your personal feedback. For example why you think that AVCO and LIFO should both be allowed as a correct answer...or not. The feedback is there to let the chief assessor know what problems we the students faced in the exam and how they can improve things in the future.
The last question totally caught me out. Having expected income, I didn't notice that it was cost until the next part of the question. It just proves that sometimes it pays to read the question and think out of the box.
Someone in a previous response said that LIFO should never be used in an exam...why? We are taught LIFO, AVCO & FIFO so either of those three should be the correct answer to a stock question.0 -
Re:ECR
LIFO under values stock so under states profit0
