    Re:Intermediate help!

    Hiya,

    I did three units.

Unit 5 - FRA - Skills test and final exam
Unit 6 - ECR - Skills test and final exam
Unit 7 - a unit on reports that was skills test based (cant remember what the unit was called)

I used the osbourne books as I find these the best

Hope this helps, sorry its a big vague

Unit 7 is/was called PRR - 'Preparing Reports & Returns' which covers - amongst other things - writing fairly simple reports to senior manangement using basic ratio analysis and also loosely includes completing the VAT return.

If you haven't yet done Foundation and are choosing the NVQ route, there'll also be the annoying but mandatory projects. However, looking at my colleges new prospectus for the year 2007/08, they're no longer offering the NVQ route at Foundation/Intermediate so I don't know what the differences will be.

    Regards,

    Robert

    Hi Jody,

Having done Foundation you will find you NVQ portfolio very empty this year on Intermediate.

You will have three skills tests, one each for FRA, ECR and PRR. This will be your whole portfolio and if your lucky the skills tests will cover all the Perfomance Crteria needed, mine did this year.

You will aslo face two exams, ECR and FRA. I can recommend getting all the past papers of the AAT website and completing them at home in the run up to the exams, I found it a great help!!

    Re:Intermediate help!

    Hi,

That's great thanks. So if I use the same studying format as last year i.e like you said abuse the past paers to the max!! I should be ok! I am lucky I can use stuff at work to add to portfolio so no to bothered about that plus like you say all the skill tests cover the criteria.
I just wanted to confirm how many skill test's and distinguish what the relevant sections would be so I am prepared for sept! Being a single mom means have to be ahead and stay ahead to keep up with work and college! hee hee!!

    Re:Intermediate help!

Just one further thing to add to this and as I've written elsewhere, the step from Foundation to Intermediate is quite a big one and you really do need to be more disciplined at this level. Without wishing to demean those currently at Foundation, you'll soon come to realise how you could have passed that level without putting in too much effort. Not so at Intermediate and above and you really do need to "put the hours in" if you wish to get through. Not only will you go from one to three different subjects but the difficulty level and the concentration required triples accordingly.

Finally, if you're studying at a college, try not to join the "I can't do this" or "I don't have time for that" whingeing brigade 'cos they just get on everyones nerves and you're all in the same boat! If you wish to succeed then certain sacrifices are inescapable.

    Good luck!

    Robert

    Hi Jody

I must say that I agree with Robert, the step from foundation to intermediate is a big one. I would contact your college and ask them whether you will be doing ECR or FRA first, if you are doing FRA keep brushing up on your double entry over the summer, otherwise you might have a big shock!

http://www.aat.org.uk/centres/display/store4/item378/#atechnician - gives the units on all the stages.
    http://www.aat.org.uk/students/display/store4/item298/ - Past Papers.

I've these saved to my favourites along with the forums as they are invaluable. :)

If you are studying the course through college will they not get the books for you? I read on the forum that there is a forum page for people getting rid of their books.

 Which ever you decide to start first don't forget you can do one exam in December and one in June. As far as I know you don't have to do both at the one time, a life saver when you are juggling work, family and study!
