Re:Study Buddy
And Chris can explain better than me but I know the basics. Firefox is another web browser like Internet Explorer and Opera. IE7 has also adopted many of the Firefox features such as tabbed browsing; this is where instead of having multiple Internet Explorer windows open along the bottom, you only have one window open with multiple tabs along the top. I personally dislike it since I kept clicking the 'X' and closing them all down accidentally.Gem7321 wrote:Ask Rob he can probably explain better than me
Firefox is also supposed to be much more secure than IE but that may be down to its relative rarity in use rather than for any particular technical magic, I wouldn't know.
If Mandy has the "blue screen of death" it could be hardware related rather than software, a memory, hard drive or motherboard problem. It's not unknown for people who experience problems with software installations to subtly kick the PC in temper and damage internal components!
However, you could try uninstalling MSN or if it was loaded fairly recently, use System Restore to take it back to the time when it was all hunky dory. This does depend on how much space you've devoted to System Restore so this might not work.

Are you still doing that? Can't you train yourself not to?blobbyh wrote:I personally dislike it since I kept clicking the 'X' and closing them all down accidentally.blobbyh wrote:If Mandy has the "blue screen of death" it could be hardware related rather than software, a memory, hard drive or motherboard problem.
Mine was memory - 4 different engineers faffed around until one considered it might be that. Touch wood - no problems since.0 -

Re:Study Buddy
Maybe they all just thought that you'd like it. You can't really blame them for that!

It's the thought that counts!0 -
Re:Study Buddyblobbyh wrote:I personally dislike it since I kept clicking the 'X' and closing them all down accidentally
No, I disabled it in IE7. I prefer having multiple windows open but I suppose some would prefer tabbing too, it's just a metter of choice.Baggybooks wrote:Are you still doing that? Can't you train yourself not to?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Damn double post... might as well make the most of it!
I think the meter's run out on the website 'cos mine's going really slow at the moment!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Thanks for the tips, I think you are right, it could be the memory as the blue screen does mention "Memory Management" or something like that. I have two hard drives so one could be playing up.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I couldn't do without tabbed browsing now but then as Robert said it's a matter of choice. You could always turn off the tabbed browsing in Firefox
IE7 is a distinct improvement over 6 but Firefox is still better in so many ways.0 -

I would first run a DSKCHK, an Windows in-built utlility. Will check for corrupt data on your HDD and if poss Fix them.
Have you altered the Page File Size for graphics and system performance? if so revert it back to the default setting see if that helps.
Download AVG Anti Spyware 7.5, install it, run it and choose full system scan including memory - if there's a problem with your memory it'll possibly show up in there.
Once finished, uninstall AVG if necessary.
When did it start showing on screen?... if you can rember, system restore to maybe a week before that point (but if it's hard ware, I can't see this making any difference).
Have you opened the machine up and made sure all cards and expansions are slotted in tight and firmly?0 -

Re:Study BuddyGem7321 wrote:J why aren't you my friend on myspace anymore?

I had a clear out of people who could potentially put me into Jail... and considering our episode with the "Pictures" I gathered it would be safest for me to remove all temptation
I'll add you right back on again, and put you anywhere you want to be on my friends list :-) pick a number... any number (not one though) I don't want a divorce thanks.0 -

And why did you get that 5 mile exclusion zone round your house? I wasn't doing any harm, just sitting there.
Hehe, Hi Helen.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Thanks J,
you are great. I will try that tonight when I get home. If it doesn't work, I will try Roberts method and give it a hard boot

Mandy, I was trying to say how the hardware might have become damaged - it wasn't a recommendation to fix the problem! :?0 -

It sometimes works though Robert0 -

I know it wasn't a recommendation Robert
it does make you feel like doing it though! 0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Some friends bought a laptop 2 months ago and still haven't sent any emails.
They've somehow triggered a password prompt and can't get past it.
They took it to a workshop for beginners and they were stumped.

was it a second hand laptop?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
No - brand new expensive Sanyo thingy.0 -
Re:Study BuddyBaggybooks wrote:No - brand new expensive Sanyo thingy.
I wasn't aware that Sanyo made lappies - surely you mean Sony as in a Sony Vaio?
If it was new, I can't see how it would have a password pre-installed unless they bought an ex-display unit from PC World or summat?

Re:Study Buddy
No - Sony. They did begin to use it and were trying to setup the internet connection.
It took them a week to get to that stage - but to be honest, unless I looked at it, I wouldn't really know what they'd done.
I did offer to help, but the 'bloke' said that he didn't need help...0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Going off on a completely different tangent here... I've just been to Boots and bought my lunch. I bought the following:
' Three of the Best Sandwich - ΓΒ£2.49
' Chocolate Brownie - ΓΒ£1.19
' Innocent Smoothie - ΓΒ£1.79
I paid ΓΒ£2.99 for all 3 as part of a Meal Deal. How can they justify charging that amount for the seperate items?0 -

You know what would be really funny? If the bloke who doesn't need any help accidentally set a "Boot" Password :-) lol0 -
