I would have posted a link here but there isn't one available. I thought some of you may be interested in the Exam Review Board's comments on DFS and PEV considering these are the two papers which students appear to struggle the most with. DFS comments have been tagged on to my answers thread but I thought it better to post here as that is getting a bit out of date now.
To quote:
DFS
The DFS exam was a good paper testing all core areas in ways that have previously been tested, so should not have posed many problems. Consolidation has focused on balance sheet entries for several sittings so it was pleasant to see a consolidated profit and loss account come up, still without incorporation of an associate. The cash flow question required a written interpretation of two years' reconciliations; this has been tested previously, but weak students would have preferred a pure numbers question.
PEV
For PEV, the comment was that the paper was too simple and many students found this disappointing. Students had no problems with the technical content, the only problem was that the question on seasonal variations was too easy and students could not believe it was that straightforward. The inclusion of the gearing ratio doesn't really sit well on a management accounting paper - but it didn't seem to pose students any difficulties. S2 31 July year end added an interesting twist!
I'm sure Sandy Hood will comment on PEV. I'm unsure as to those students who found it simple were actually disappointed.
As you know I reperformed the DFS paper on behalf of those wanting to know some suggested answers. I found the paper quite friendly and nothing in there which would have caused a well-prepared student too many problems. I don't entirely agree with the inclusion of a consolidated profit and loss account as being "pleasant" as the feedback I have received would suggest that many students did, in fact, "question spot" (which is highly dangerous) and thought a consolidated balance sheet would come up. This would have sunk the hearts of many I suspect!
Kind regards
Steve

Re:Exam Review Comments DFS and PEV
The exam review comments were in PQ Magazine. I'm unsure if there was one for PCR as I no longer have the copy of the magazine but if any other members have it I'm sure they'll be able to share it.
Kind regards
