What is the point of the off-topic forum?

It adds nothing of any substance to the Forums and detracts from the serious questions that should be being dealt with here.

It detracts nothing. Serious posts have their own forums.
You might be distracted by it - but that is your problem.
I say long may it continue - give us tolerence - and for some, a flipping sense of humour.

Nobody forces you to look at the off topic forum. If you don't like it, then stick to all the other threads and leave this one to those professionals who like to have a bit of fun or want to talk about non accounting subjects. I didn't know that the AAT syllaus included "How to be a killjoy?"0 -

Like? There isn't a quota of questions you can ask. If 14,442 want to reply to a nonsense thread, that's their choice.
Feel free to ask something serious. I'm sure none of us can wait.

I think you need to get out more if your idea of 'fun' is chatting about bugger-all on the AAT off-topic forum. The forum should be a resource to assist with real issues.0 -
Re:What is the point of the off-topic forum?
Come on then Paul - start a serious thread. We're all here - you have a good audience tonight.

Re:What is the point of the off-topic forum?
don't you think that the off topic forum helps people?
A lot of members who use the thread are people who work on their own and this is the only way to release those pent up feelings of frustration during the day. As I have said before, no-one forces you to look at the thread.0 -
Re:What is the point of the off-topic forum?
If I was posting a serious thread, it wouldn't be on this poor excuse for a forum would it - I wouldn't expect to get many serious reponses judging by some of thr drivel that is discussed here. Anyway some of us have work to do, so I will bid you all farewell. Enjoy your tittle-tattle.0 -
Re:What is the point of the off-topic forum?
Paulb - The whole purpose to this being called an off-topic forum is that it has nothing to do with any of the "serious" accounting side. That is what the other forums are for ie; Foundation, Intermidiate, Technician so on and so forth. Although you may not like it (which I gather you don't) This forum is for those of us wanting to let off steam, socialise with some of the other students that may frequent the forums and have a bit of "FUN". Yes the threads may go off on silly tangents but hey it shows some of us possess humour and imagination, by far a more positive light in the accounting profession that the typical "accountants are boring with no sense of humour pen pushers". So if you feel the need to ask serious questions go and place it in the "serious" part of the forum. As I have already pointed out "Off-Topic" means somewhere where you can talk about absolutely anything!!!!!!0 -

Forum - somewhere to exchange thoughts and ideas. Luckily we all have differing ones.
Let's remove the MIP forum. Free up more space for us.0 -
