Re:Which software do you recommend?
I've only ever used Sage Line 50 and Quickbooks, but of the two, Quickbooks is far easier and more intuitive to learn and does nearly everything I ask of it.

Re:Which software do you recommend?
Thanks for your reply. I use Sage Line 50 at work. I have just downloaded a free trial of quickbooks and at first glance it does seem very user friendly

Re:Which software do you recommend?
I would support Robert's views on Quickbooks, very easy to pick up and operate. I have used it on and off for the best part of 10 years and have had no problem with it.

Re:Which software do you recommend?
I'm another QBs fan - much more user-friendly than sage IMHO.0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
This might be a stupid question but is there an English version or a way to change the wording in it? The free version has American wording in it such as checks and fiscal year.
I dont suppose it really matters but dont want to get this one if there is a different one on the market
Thanks0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
If you are purchasing a copy in this country, it will be in English English, not American.0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
Thank you, I had a feeling I was asking an obvious question :oops:0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
mmm, even the 'english' copies have american quirks - such as there's no straightforward way to have a year-end date of 5 April, americans tax partnerships differently so it's tricky trying to apportion profits to partners, and there's lots of z's in the help manuals! But nothing that seriously affects how it works0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
I am building up to working out how to import invoices from Excel into Quickbooks - anyone had a go at this ?0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
I did look into doing that when i first got QBs but I couldn't work out how to. What I worked out was that you can only import supplier & customer details (address, phone no, contact name etc) and not actually bills, but I could be wrong there. You could try asking here: quickbooksusers.com but make sure you post on the UK boards to avoid some very strange answers!0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
From my QuickBooks user guide;
First, you need to import data in an IIF format, a special Intuit version of an ASCII text file with headings to tell QuickBooks what the content is;
"Creating an IIF file from scratch requires knowledge of a spreadsheet program. Changing data from another accounting program into an IIF file is technically complex and not recommended for those who do not have programming experience".
Also some other guff about having to edit each invoice to add/change account terms and outstanding balances.
Quite simple then really - NOT! Still fancy a go?!

Re:Which software do you recommend?
Ha Ha !
It's all about motivation - I have one customer who gives me a schedule of 1,250 invoices per month which are currently input by hand (having already been created and dispatched)
If I can automate this I get to dream of being alseep at this time of night !0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
Go for Sage, it's a proper and accurate accounting software.
Quickbooks it's just for quickly post invoices and payment, but if you need to do proper accounting tasks it's terrible.
Sage is recommended by every employer and auditors.0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
... not by this one it isn't and I would imagine you're neither. By the way, have you really scanned every single thread on the Forums, looking for QuickBooks just so you can abuse it?MissManu wrote:Sage is recommended by every employer and auditor

Re:Which software do you recommend?
I prefer Sage to QB - and you can import invoices from other systems via XL.
I have got one client who has some poxy invoice system. All he does now is export from poxy to XL and email to me. I then "play around" with them to get the columns right (about 5 mins) and then import into Sage - presto job done - and hours of my time and their money saved.
The one thing that I dont like about Sage is that you cant batch together paying ins from different customers.

Am I free to say what I think or do I need to ask your permission?0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
You've done it again Robbie!
Here's my two-penneth worth - I do work with a practice who hate Sage! I have only used it once years ago when I studied AAT, and thought it was rubbish.0 -
Re:Which software do you recommend?
LOL! Well it's clear that I prefer QuickBooks, however although it's now been years since I used Sage, I certainly wouldn't think it rubbish because I'd struggle to use it!
Now to get back to my Black Sabbath...!

Re:Which software do you recommend?
Quickbooks is designed for Non-Accountants
Sage is designed for Accoutants
simple as that.
Quoting your words, Mr LOL "If you're having to go to so much effort to find out simple information, then I'd imagine it can't be configured for your needs properly"
QB in fact is not for my needs as an accountant.
I'm waisting my time to find simple information and do simple tasks, therefore yes, I think it's rubbish, the name says everything "Quickbooks", just to do quick posts, "Accounts for Dummies", I would rename it....So nice on Sage you can post a pile of invoices all in one page and then at the end click on Save while on QB this has to be done one by one....this is just an example, I could prepare a long list...
The multi user feature is rubbish too, 2 user cannot use it at the same time??? hahahahaha
Glad at my company they have just placed an order for Sage, so we can scrap the disastrous and buggy QB

Errrrrrr......... yes they can, we do and I think those two quotes you've offered kind of say it all really. However, as I see you've also posted more similar comments over on the other thread, I'll repeat what I wrote there. To stop this further developing into a long and protracted argument - you have ten posts, all of which are on this one topic - just reiterate that I think this is a ridiculous discussion and should now be considered closed.
