    Re:Accounts Job

I would suggest going and having a chat with at least one of the bigger agencies who specialise in accounts and finance - Hays, RK etc.

Hi thanx everyone for your help

How do you send your CV to different firms? I mean you cant just post a letter and a CV to any firm. They may just ignore it !

They may, which is why there's a few tips to follow.

Nine times out of then they'll open the envelope, or someone will.

    Use decent quality paper
    Handwrite the envelop neatly
Use a professional layout or eyecathcing layout
    Don't border the page!
Keep it brief but pack your attributes into it

For every 10 you send out, you may only get one call back, you may get 2 or 3 or even more!

    Good luck!

I was also advised a few years ago never to put the words 'Curriculum Vitae' on the top of your CV since this is the equivalent of writing 'Letter' at the top of each letter you write i.e. you're stating the bleeding obvious!

Mine has my name and contact details at the top, followed by a short paragraph of what I'm looking for also followed by a bulleted list of my attributes. Only then do I start to list my jobs in descending order but only to the last ten years and/or two or three full time jobs. There's not much point in going further back than in time unless there's something especially significant in your distant past.

If it's literally decades since you left school (and for some of us it is!), then only a grief history of your qualifications and grades need suffice with more emphasis placed on recent (and presumably more relevant) qualifications. For example, my O' level in biology from 1984 is hardly important now so barely gets a mention whereas the AAT studies will contain just a bit more detail!

You might also want to slightly tailor each CV to the company you're applying for rather than mass mailing the same one to all. You'll probably need to do a little research on each one before you do this.

Adding to what Jamie has already said, use 100gsm quality watermarked paper and envelopes e.g. Conqueror, not what you've nicked from the office stationery cupboard! I also wouldn't use white coloured paper but rather pale blue or green since you'll want it to stand out amongst the others on someone's desk.

Finally, step back from the CV once it's done and (try to) see how it might look to someone else. Is it too much in depth - which many often are - or boring to read? Oh, and I'd advise two pages maximum - any longer than this and the reader might not make it past the first page, assuming that you're assuming they have all the time in the world!

    Good luck!

    Robert
