... something a bit lighter. This was a twelve year olds maths homework and this even had me scratching my own head, and my kids had to help me complete it!
You have four 4's plus all the symbols + - / x
Starting at 0 and ending at 9, you must use all of the 4's plus any or all of the symbols, more than once where necessary, to get the required number; I've done 0 already;
0 = (4+4)-(4+4)
1 =
2 =
3 =
4 =
5 =
6 =
7 =
8 =
9 =
Each person do one and repost. If you can do all of them, don't post the answers but PM me instead with your time and I'll let you know.
It's not as easy as it looks!
Regards,
Robert

Re:Get the brain thinking...
I mis-read Robert's original post. I thought you had to get 1!!!!
Oh well it is Sunday night!
p.s. 7= (4+4)-(4/4)!!0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
2 = (4/4)+(4/4)0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
8=(4*4)-(4+4)0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
9 = (4+4) + (4/4)
Sorry Robert I think Annette and I have got a bit too eager with this one!!!

Re:Get the brain thinking...
So (and correct me if I'm wrong) we've done 1,2,3,5,7,8,9.
Just 4 and 6 to go!0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
I'm trying to get the 4. I thought I'd got it but I didn't hence the "." post!!!0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
4 = (4-4*4)+4

How about ((4-4)*4)+4
I definitely make that 4 but I'm struggling with 60 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
Yes FG that's right. Only 6 to go now.0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
Must be a 24 in there somewhere but how do you get 3 "4"'s to equal 24?0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
6 =((4 + 4)/4) +40 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
6 = 4 +(4+4)/40 -

Re:Get the brain thinking...
Thanks, Robert, enjoyed that! A novel way to spend a Sunday evening.0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
Excellent, though I think my kids managed to beat all of us! Hilarious to see how many 'oops' peugeot managed to make!
You can also do it with 3's too, same rule as before, four 3's plus the symbols. I'll start with 9 'cos it's easy;
9 = (3x3) / (3/3)0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
1 = (3x3) / (3x3)
0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
4 = ((3x3)+3)/30 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
As part of today's work avoidance scheme...
0 = (3-3)+(3-3)
1 = (3+3)/(3+3)
2 = (3/3)+(3/3)
3 = (3+3+3)/3
4 = ((3x3)+3)/3
5 = 3+3-(3/3)
6 = 3+3+3-3
7 = 3+3+(3/3)
8 = 3x3-(3/3)
9 = (3x3x3)/30 -

Don't you just hate clever sods! There were Annette, Steve and me having fun and CJ spoils it. :thumbdown:0 -
Re:Get the brain thinking...
I was quite relieved, actually.
I was beginning to get quite stressed over it.

Re:Get the brain thinking...
As no-one had posted anything since Sunday I thought you'd all got tired of it. Anyway, if your brains still need a workout the question is, can it be done with 5s? My feeling is that is can't but prove me wrong.0
