Distance learning for Technician level?

I've just successfully completed the Intermediate level. I'm now trying to decide whether to try to do the Technician level at college, or via distance learning. It would be more flexible for me, in case I was to move to a different location within the next year. Can anyone give me any advice, whether you've done it this way, or want to advise me on whether you think it's possible or not. I'm aware it's quite a lot of work, so although I'd rather do distance learning, my head says I shouldn't. Please help if you can, thanks.

I know at least a couple of people that have completed Technician via distance learning. If you are thinking about relocating, then I would recommend it.

    Hi Andrew
It took me 2 years to do foundation distance learning when really it should have been less. I then went on to evening class once a week for intermediate.
For technician, it was day release at college and I achieved technician in 9 months.
College was definitley the better out of the two for me but it does depend on personal circumstances.
Tech can be achieved either way but I believe if I had done tech by distance learning it would have been nearer 18 months.
Others may disagree, it does depend on what time you can dedicate to distance learning and having a study plan in place.

    Andrew,
I have nearly completed all 3 levels on distant learning. It has taken 3 years and to be honest I could have probably shaved 6 months off that. As previously mentioned, it really is down to the individual, I could have never had gone to college, I prefer the freedom of doing it when I want to.
Good luck on what you decide.

thanks for the help. I worry about such things as general understanding, which at times is tricky enough at college even. Also simulations, I'd worry about those, if was to do them completely alone. But it definitely appeals, i have less than 1 week to decide now

Totally understand what you are saying about doing things alone. The provider I am with gives you short tests and practice simulations to do to see how you are managing. They are also on e-mail and on the phone, which to me is more appealing than waiting once a week to see a college tutor. Of course, you also have this forum for help and a study buddy if you yell for one

My distance learning provider started doing interactive on-line lectures last year. They are quite good and a way of builing up your knowledge. I expect other providers do them. The tutor talks to you and you tuype in your questions and queries. They have powerpoint presentations too.
If I get really stuck I email my tutor and they either ring me or email me guidance. Once she picked up on my lack of motivation and rang for a pep talk. We didnt talk about the course, just stuff in general. I dont think a tutor at college would do that.

I've found out that they would just charge me for each unit that I do with distance learning. So I am thinking I will just enroll at college, then during the year if I need to, I will transfer to distance learning
