The best thing to do with the standards would be to obtain a summary of them and use this as an aide memoir. The IASB has done this and it can be found on my link.

I sat this in June this year. The standards are very confusing to learn, however they only asked 2 questions where you had to know the relevant standard and their meaning. I think it was more luck that I managed to get one right. The main part of the exam was regarding the Income Statement, Cash flow Statement, Consolidation, etc. Although I am not say do not revise them, I would concentrate alot more on the other elements of the course and hopeully some of the standards will stick..
    Good Luck.

I agree with Liz, I too have just passed the DFS paper and mainly concentrated on consolidation and preparation of financial statements, ratio anaylsis, cashflow statements etc. That's not to say that you should ignore the IAS's and smaller parts of the syllabus.

Practice as many past papers as you can get your hands on. Try and do them without using your notes, this will give you a better understanding of where your weaknesses are.

One of the most important things is to read the question properly. I mis-read one of the questions in part1 of the June exam and lost all of the marks. I assumed they wanted me to comment on the cashflow that I had just created but they were asking for something else.
    Good Luck!!

I didn't quote any in the Dec 06 exam. I did ignore an event after the balance sheet though. Just concentrate on the basics. I did learn IAS's but only one line for each primary one. Get the Income Statement, Cash flow Statement, Consolidation, and the that long title one :? sorted and you'll be OK.

Stating ACCA on Wednesday  , Taxation and Business Law up first.

The best way I found to learn most of the standards is to write them down with a quick definative short meaning that will jog you into remembering roughly what it means. Then get someone to test you on these ie ask what IAS 12 is and so on. You will eventually get the hang of them :)
