Workplace observations!

Have you ever noticed...?

1) The number of people who will stop in mid work related conversation with you to answer their ringing phone? Does anyone else think this is damned rude?! My logic is, I was there first and I made the effort to go over and speak to them in person! How bloody dare someone else, who can't even be bothered to get off their lazy arse even though they might be in the same office, simply pick up a telephone and get priority treatment over me? Of course, it's not their fault but rather the person who answers their call and immediately disses me! I know I certainly wouldn't like it if the person on the deli counter at Lidl's suddenly started serving someone else halfway through me placing my own order for their trampy food products.

2) There's always an occasional superior who will never give you advice when you most need it, simply 'cos you're beneath them in the company heirarchy? But - my theory is, that if you play up to their vanity by pretending you can't do something while bowing down to their superior knowledge - they'll usually be only too glad to come up with the goods! So you manipulate them, the unknowing sods! LOL!

Anyone else got any workplace moans or sneaky little tricks to get things done?

Robert

    1. I'm just glad they spoke to me. I have no friends.

    2. I don't even have a superior to manipulate.

I always answer the phone if I'm talking to someone, no matter who it is I'm talking too, however I do apologise before I pick up. I now work on my own having previously worked in an office with three other women and have found the adjustment quite hard. Its almost like solitary confinement, not that I know what that really feels like you understand, but it must be close?

I encourage people to sit down for a while and have a chat with me but the phone must be answered I'm afraid.

I do answer the phone, but say 'sorry, do you mind if I just get this' and then tell the person on the phone that I have someone with me and I'll call them back. Seems to keep everyone happy anyway!!

I've recently started a new role and it's lovely here, but my old place was a nightmare - my boss would ask me to post a journal for him and then blame me if it was wrong! He'd also ask me something and then ask again later infront of someone to make himself look better - he was a nightmare!!

Another of my colleagues there used to stare into space at his monitor whilst picking his nose and then eating it. He also used to cut his finger nails with scissors and use the sharp bit to clean underneath them, gross huh! Needless to say I never borrowed his scissors.....
