I received a mailing from this group. Does anyone know anything about them?
Is there any truth in their claim that "non chartered" accountants will be audited by HMRC on a regular basis? Anyone else had this mailing?
They don't even appear to have a website! Dodgy?

    I have heard of them but they are not relatively well-known and to be honest I don't know anything about them.

    I don't recall ever hearing an announcement from HMRC that non-chartered accountants will be inspected regularly though I'm not saying it hasn't been mentioned.

    They do have a website (http://www.acpa.org.uk).

    They are basically a trade association for non-qualified accountants in practice. Very similar to the ICPA (http://www.icpa.org.uk).

    I don't have any problem with the intentions of these trade associations but I think that they are attractive to their membership only by virtue of including the word 'certified' in their title.

    I suspect their recent mailing refers to the fact that HMRC will be responsible for monitoring them under the new ML rules. Something that members of most professional bodies will be exempt from (not just ICAEW members).

    Yes, all sounds a bid odd. They are asking for £40 per month to join them and £100 joining fee. No exam!

    Hi

    I have heard a few good comments about ICPA, particularly their support of their members. Their CPD provision is meant to be quite useful to the small practitioner (an annual CD-ROM I believe) and have been praised for providing better support than ICAEW.

    I agree Neil.

    I think QBEs/Non-qualifieds should find themselves a trade association to join and the ICPA do an admirable job.

    I believe the £40 per month fee also includes PI insurance so it is not a bad deal at all.

    It just seems a little cheeky to include that word 'certified' when there is no examined entry.
