Re:VAT REGISTRATION NUMBER
No you don't have to tell them. As long as your invoice cites the correct VAT number you should be fine.
Kind regards

Re:VAT REGISTRATION NUMBER
If you have a new number because your trading title has changed, you might want to advise your suppliers of this - that will ensure their invoices to you are correct.0 -

I'm a bit confused with your answer. It is not normal practice to send invoices to a supplier, is it?
If you are sending remittances with payment, then your VAT number should show on that.0 -
Re:VAT REGISTRATION NUMBER
I think you will find that Steve was referring to sales invoices.0 -
Re:VAT REGISTRATION NUMBER
My post was quite vague seemingly. As Jan has kindly pointed out for you, I was referring to sales invoices.
Kind regards

Re:VAT REGISTRATION NUMBER
Thanks for replies.
The thing is I work in retail in an office on my own so don't really have anyone else to ask. The person that I work for owns two shops who each had their own Vat number, but they now have a group VAT number. All of the invoices that I send out (which are not many) plus till receipts have the new number on them, also new suppliers are told the new Vat number. I just wondered if there could be any legal implications if our old suppliers are not told, as the invoices that they are sending still have our old VAT numbers on. Just trying to save myself extra work0 -
Re:VAT REGISTRATION NUMBER
Why would a suppliers invoice to you have your VAT number on when it's their number that needs to be shown? As Jan and Steve have already mentioned, it's your VAT number that appears on your own sales invoices and your suppliers VAT number that appears on your purchase invoices.TALLY wrote:I just wondered if there could be any legal implications if our old suppliers are not told, as the invoices that they are sending still have our old VAT numbers on
As baggybooks (Helen) also mentioned, it's paramount for suppliers to know - and keep up to date with - the correct trading names of their customers, since in the possible event of debts becoming bad, it will be required for the legal paperwork.

Robert
EDIT; sorry, just re-read your post and can see I misinterpreted it. By 'they' you mean your own organisation whereas I thought you meant 'they' as in your suppliers!

Re:VAT REGISTRATION NUMBER
No you did not misinterpret what I said, when I say 'they' I mean the suppliers. When you open an account with a supplier you are asked for your VAT number as well as various other info. I was just simply asking if that number changes do they have to be informed. I can assure you that some of the invoices that we receive (not what we send) DO have our VAT number on them.0 -
Re:VAT REGISTRATION NUMBER
In that case, you've answered your own original question Tally, in that if you change your own company VAT number and it appears on their suppliers sales invoices to you, then you need to inform them if it changes. VAT invoice rules are here and you need to read the part about EU sales and supplies if they affect you;;
