CIMA

Sorry for the short subject title, but I can't think of a good one!
Basically, I was talking to my boss about starting CIMA and I said I would have to wait until I find a new job to register as I'm hoping to get it paid for. He said if I register, as I have MAAT status, I can call myself CIMA part-qualified without having to do any exams.
He said he did this himself and checked with some agencies.
I just want to know if this is likely as it should bump up my salary expectations (I hope).

Re:CIMA
Hello Purplegirl.
As an MAAT you would be entitled to claim exemptions from some CIMA exams, i.e. not have to sit them.
Usually you aren't able to claim that you are CIMA part-qualified until you are sitting your finals.
Check with their website, or ring their student services department. Professional bodies frown upon students claiming to be something they're not!
Regards.

Re:CIMA
Hi
The "part-qualified" term gets banded about a lot and it depends on who's saying as to what they mean. CIMA and also ACCA don't have any official definition and ACCA go as far as saying that they don’t endorse the term.
Generally recruitment consultancies admit to using the term once a person has completed at least one paper (not including exemptions) so saying CIMA part-qualified having gained AAT and the associated exemptions is probably stretching the truth a bit. However, having said that agencies will often use the term in a generic sense to describe AAT qualified, i.e. part-qualified as an accountant in general.

Re:CIMA
ACCA take the similar view to CIMA that you are not part qualified until you have sat and passed an exam. You may have exemptions but this is not the same as a pass on an exam.
Good luck with your further studies - they are a lot of work but WELL WORTH IT!
