PEV & PCR Exams

Hi
I have just started the Technician year and am taking the PCR and PEV exam in December. I wondered if anyone else out there is struggling with variances, as I really seem to be having trouble remembering what figures I use for what.
This is only my fourth week in learning them, but with the exams in only 7 weeks, I am starting to panic.
Has anyone got any advice on how to learn these, so I remember them? Or is it a case of learning them over and over again?! :?
Thanks
V

Re:PEV & PCR Exams
I just kept writing them out until it stuck in my brain. I did try to remember the order they were usually asked in, but this sometimes changed.0 -
Re:PEV & PCR Exams
Don't panic! I had exactly the same problem last year & picked up some really helpful crib notes from this forum. Haven't got them on me now - will post them tomorrow for you in time to learn them over the weekend!0 -
Re:PEV & PCR Exams
My advice is to learn them by understanding what they mean rather than by formulae or mnemonic.
Here are 2 links that might help:

Re:PEV & PCR Exams
I agree with the previous poster - you do need to get your head 'round the meaning of the variances otherwise you'll never get it right, but these really helped me remember the formulae (Hard to show properly as I can't seem to dictate the layout, but look at the capital letters):
Material & Labour Variances - PURE AS AS
Price = (standard - actual) x Actual
Usage = (standard - actual) x Standard
Rate = (standard - actual) x Actual
Efficiency = (standard - actual) x Standard
Fixed Overhead Variances -
CROSS(X) CHICKENS EAT VEG
and drink BASS
ALL BLOKES ARE BASTARDS
eXpenditure = Budget - Actual
Capacity = Actual - Budget
Efficiency = Standard - Actual
Volume = Standard - Budget
Hope this helps.

Re:PEV & PCR Exams
Thanks for your advice.
I am gradually understanding more, just think I expected too much too quickly.
I still can't believe exams are only a few weeks away.
I don't know if I am going to be able to do it, but will give it a good try.
Thanks again

Re:PEV & PCR Exams
Hi Jo
I'm sorry to hear about you and your hubby splitting it must be really hard for you to motivate yourself. I have a six month old baby so i have to really organise my time in order to get any studying done.
Are you taking PEV in Dec?
I know you must be having a hard tme in your personal life at the moment but maybe studying could take your mind off it for a short while. I think if you pass your exams that will really boost you.

Re:PEV & PCR Exams
Hi Jo
Have you got a private email address? maybe we could chat about studying and talk about tips and revision.
Im trying to do 2 hours revision a day at the moment and i find when i get stuck the best thing to do is take a step back and actually just think about what i'm doing none of the work is diificult sometimes when we do revision we can tend to get an anwser wrong then get our selfs into a state, therefore making the work harder then what it actually is.
