    Mohmedsalim,

It is impossible to answer this question because a lot of people will find payroll very easy at any level, even managerial whereas others will be stumped by the most routine of payroll tasks. We are all different and have different abilities and all you can do is attempt it, as long as you are clear in your mind that payroll is something you want to do and is a good outlet for your talents.

What I will say, though I am open to contradiction, is that payroll is very involved with a myriad of calculations, laws and techniques to learn even though not all payroll jobs need them. To pass the exams you need to understand more than just the rudiments and principles of calculation of income tax and national insurance as well as the intricacies of pensions, sickness, maternity and many others.

It has not been a bad career for me, nearly 30 years now, but I have few complaints and spend my time helping payroll offices modernise and improve their processes and staff skills.

The only thing which bothers me is the spread and differences in your chosen subjects. Perhaps you need to be more focussed and do technician and literacy, OR payroll and literacy rather than have such a mix, however, it is your choice. Whatever happens just develop a good relationship with your tutor and use all the advice and guidance routes you can find, including this forum to make sure you stay on track.

    Mohmedsalim,

I agree with your decision to go for classroom based study. If you have any dilemma about getting through it successfully then the clasroom atmosphere has to be more beneficial.

Sue, you do need some sort of study book from BPP or FTC Kaplan, I don't know if both are still producign the books but you cannot just rely on these, I suggest you get hold of the HMRC CD Rom for 2008 and load it on to your computer. It contains all the guidance books produced by the revenue and you need to read up on these as well as the offical study books.
