B & Q Discount Cheques

Many of my builder clients are now in possession of the B & Q discount card, which means that once a month they receive a rebate cheque of between 5 and 25% of their spend. B & Q are advising customers that these cheques can be lodged into a private account or a child's account in order to avoid declaring them. I keep telling them this is wrong. Has anyone else come across this one yet?

    I haven't heard about it - but it would sound wrong to me - in effect instead of their goods costing them £100 they are only costing them £80 - what about the VAT implications :confused1:

    Are you sure that it is B&Q that are telling them that, or is it their mate down the pub :thumbdown:

    B & Q are definitely telling their trade customers this. I telephoned them myself to ask how I have to deal with the cheques and they told me that "if I lodge them in a private account or someone else's account, I do not have to declare them". Do I have a duty to report this do you think?
    And yes, Claudia, there are the VAT implications too!
