Hi There can anyone help me understand this calcs of car
car benefit 2007/8
list price 18100 *18%(150g co2) =3258*158/365=1410 (had from 06.04. to 09.09)
list price 28111*19% (140g co2)=5341*208/365=3043(had from 10.09-to 05.04)
Total car benefit 4453
Car fuel 16900*18%*158/365=1316
" " 16900*19%*208/365=1829
Car fuel benefit= 3145
i think the calc should be:
car benefit
list price 18100 *18%(150g co2) =3258*158/365=1410 (had from 06.04. to 09.09)
list price 28111*18% (Actual 138g=135g co2) =5341*207/365=2869
car Fuel 16900*18%=3042
I would be very grateful for any reviews on this,
Cheers

This is what I have come up with
Both are diesel so add 3%
There are 366 days last year and also in your calcs (158+208)
£14400 for fuel benefit for 07/08
So
Car 1
List price £18100
CO2 150g
So 150-140 = 10/5 = 2 + 15 + 3 (diesel) = 20%
18100 x 20% = 3620 x 158/366 = 1563
Car 2
List price £28111
CO2 140g
So 140-140 = 0 + 15 + 3 (diesel) = 18%
28111 x 18% = 5060 x 208/366 = 2876
Total Co car benefit = £4439
Fuel
14400 x 20% x 158/366 = 1243
14400 x 18% x 208/366 = 1473
Total fuel benefit = £2716
Feel free to correct me if I am wrongRegards,

car benefit calcs
hi burg
Thankyou for replying
ive not looked into your calcs in depth yet,
both cars are diesel,
if you are able to review cals i would be ever most grateful -(this is bugging me- i cant see what im missing)
Thanks
nena0 -
have edited above to reflect the cars being diesel
Roughly what you were missing -
Both are diesel so add 3%
There were 366 days last year your calcs are accounting for 366 ays (158+208) but you have apportioned out of 365
Fuel benefit calculation value for 07/08 was £14400 (£16900 is 08/09)
Let me know if you want more explanation

car Benefits
Thanks Ian
The first car was registered 01.01.05 that makes it 1V euro emissions
would that change the calcs, its just the revenue have calculated
the figures of 4453 car benefit and 3145 Fuel benefit
working on yours it means that they have taken 443 too much.
I will have another look at car tables on HMRC website, but if you come up with anything i would be most grateful.
its good that people like you are willing to help.
Thanks

The co car is not too far out only £14 so not too bad
The fuel is out by £429.
I recalculated on the 08/09 tax year amount of £16900 which comes to £3188 which is fairly close.
Is it definately for 07/08?
I would check to see what HMRC say the CO2's are on each car.Regards,
Burg0 -
Sorry Ian
The car benefit is based on 2008/9 tax year
I cannot seem to find the car tables on revenue site- its a minefield!!
Thanks
Nena0 -
If it is 08/09 then the
fuel benefit I calculate as follows
16900 x 20% = 3380 x 158/366 = £1459
16900 x 18% = 3042 x 208/366 = £1729
Total fuel benefit = £3188
Only a difference overall of £29 compared to HMRC figs so not too bad
Try here for figuresRegards,

Hi Ian
Ive just managed to find P11d WS2 sheets
From them i have for 18100= 18% car registered 01.05.05 column 1 150 co2
28111-18% registered 10.09.08 column 2 135g ( actual co2=138 rounded to 135)
is this right?
Fuel would then be 16900* for both cars at18%
Both these cars are Euro 1V Diesel
Cheers
Nena0 -
I still get this for car 1 as its got 150g emmissions
150-140 = 10
so 10/5 = 2
Starting = 15%
CO2 = 2%
Diesel = 3%
15 + 2 + 3 = 20%Regards,
Burg0 -
Hi Ian
pardon my lack of knowledge,
I can see that 140g being the threshold -150=10
Taking this from 15% to 17% plus 3% diesel=20%
But on the P11D WS2 (2009) working sheets it does not give any of that just a straight % in section 5a
Cheers Nena0 -
Found this
The rules governing the calculation of the appropriate percentage change in three ways with effect from 2008/09.
The lower threshold, the CO2 emissions figure which determines the appropriate percentage for all cars, is reduced from 140 to 135
Diesel (not Euro IV) supplement: 3%
Diesel (Euro IV) first reg on/before 31/12/05 cancel supplement, above
Car 1
150 - 135 = 15 /5 = 3 + 15 + 3 = 21% cancel diesel as euro IV -3 = 18%
Car 2
135 - 135 = 0 + 15 + 3 = 18%
Got there!
Sorry didn't realise the rules had changed, thats some cpd for this year!Regards,
Burg0 -
Thanks Ian
am i correct in fuel is 16900*18%
Much appreciated0 -
yeah no apportionment for the fuel as both cars were 18%Regards,
Burg0 -
Great
Now to tackle HMRC!!
Your help has been greatly appreciated Ian,
Many Thanks

car benefit calcs
Yeah I just wish they would list a little more info about the car. If voters are just to look at the cars and dont know about them, then they wouldnt know that his has an LT1 swap and another car might have something else. It is the car of the month, but we are kinda basing it on just the apperance of the car. Oh well, its a close race.
