OMG; the most exciting thing this year so far...

... Guitar Hero Metallica is finally out! What GH was made for! All those early 80's years spent headbanging in rock clubs with an air guitar and now I can finally thrash to 'Whiplash' and 'Creeping Death' in my own home with a tangible plastic one! The coming weekend is just gonna be lost Ray Milland style but without as much alcohol...

I rarely get excited about anything but this is just sheer awesomeness..!

I'm sure you won't be terribly surprised if I don't share (or even begin to comprehend) your excitement. Still, it's nice to have something in life.

Yeah, I was wondering why people don't just get a real guitar instead, far less sad.

Cheers Annette, will you be posting it to me then? Just about to nip downtown to buy it!

Sadly, Blackened didn't make it Paul but many of the other classics did. So may Metallica memories from the past about to be resurrected and there's even Machine Head on there for Vic...!

    Errr no!

Guitar hero is a bit of a swear word in our family as my daughter has it but someone lent her the mike - her singing is so awful she can only go on it when no one else is in the house!

And my 6 year old son has decided he wants the drum set to go with it for his birthday and can't be persuaded that he might want something else instead!!

Couldn't get it downtown or anywhere else for that matter. Do the prattish buyers at Tesco, Blockbuster, Currys.digital etc not realise when a monster new game is about to be released and get some in stock? There weren't even empty spaces so it's not as if they've sold out. The gaming/audio requirements of the public moves so fast yet I can never understand why some retailers have their "specialist sections" if they can't keep up with the pace of change. Tossers.

Oh, how I miss Woolworths. Rant over...

The answer to your question is no you can't. It's a standalone game though you can download their last album, "Death Magnetic"...

As for your "played one, played em all"... this is Metallica we're talking about, not hairspray band Aerosmith...!

AND YES I NOW HAVE IT - JUST NIPPED INTO BRIGHTON AND GOT A COPY! THE KIDS ARE GONNA BE SO NEGLECTED THIS WEEKEND!

As for missing Woolies, does anyone else frequently still think ' I'll just nip into Woolies for that' and then realise no you can't.

And for kid's crazes, Argos etc. are just not the same. I have been in for Power Rangers stuff to Argos and you stand in the queue pay your money then wait at collection point only to find the one they have in stock is the same one your kid has (i.e. colour of ranger, whatever) and then the staff get cheesed off when you say ' no, sorry he already has that one he wants the green one (or whatever). Bring back the days of being able to look on the shelves and just pick the one they want.

Worked at Woolies during my A Levels. Fairly sure I hated it at the time but I look back on it very fondly these days.

I was gutted when they went under.

If you buy it from HMV you get a Metallica Guitar Hero t-shirt in the special edition version... Not much good if you don't want the game though.

In a place like Newquay where there are few shops that aren't just selling surf gear or tourist tat, Woolies was quite handy. Having said that, I don't recall buying much there apart from the odd but of stationery. Argos is hateful, they never seen to have enough staff and you end up waiting ages for stuff. Every time I have to shop there I seem to end complaining about something. Sadly, it's pretty much the only shop round here where you can get a whole lot of things without a trip to Truro.

I take Mark and Sonny's comments on board that maybe not all people like Metallica so if Activision ever make a Westlife version of Guitar Hero, I'll be sure to let you two know...

As for the rest of us Metallica fans and to continue with the quotes theme...
