Has anybody had any experience of SagePay before?

    The story is our company is thinking about setting up an online shop and someone we know has said that SagePay is a good program for receiving payments. We currently have a Barclaycard Merchant Machine for receiving payments and didnt know what the difference is.

    Have you used SagePay before?

    Hi,

    We have used sage pay formely protx for a few years now and find the site really good and easy to use. Have had to contact them a few times and always find them informative and willing to help sort out any problems. We did have some fraud occur last year , because the settings werent updated as they should have been but apart from that it runs fine, Easy to do refunds. We also use barclaycard merchant services for payments aswell.

    We didnt know if we used Sagepay if we would still need our Barclaycard Terminal. Doesnt Sagepay do everything that the Terminal does? (Remembering I know absolutely nothing about Sagepay! lol)

    depends how you use it?
    we use the barclaycard merchant services machine for sales via our shop and also have it for online purposes,
    whereas sage pay is solely for online services. It is all automatically processed you get confirmation email with the payment details etc.

    Can I ask why you don't just use Sagepay for all transactions instead of paying charges for both. I know you said that Sagepay is only for online sales but is it not possible to use it for shop sales too. This is what we are trying to find out as we didnt really want to pay charges for both if we could get away with just using SagePay.

    We have never done online sales before but do have customers who come into reception and purchase our goods paying by card this is where we use our Barclaycard Terminal.

    Sorry, my knowledge doesn't extend to the questions you're asking. I know about bookkeeping for it, but not day-to-day runnings :)

    One thing to check is that some banks treat all payments through payment gateways such as this as e-commerce payments, and erode your companies rights to protection from chargeback etc. accordingly (lack of chip and pin is part of the reason).

    You would need to check your T & C's from the bank etc. and the volume/value/potential risk of collection orders to judge if this is/could be an issue.

    The other thing we see is customers who now dont wish to enter their cards into any computer due to previous problems with fraud etc. and could be funny about you inputting it.
