Who is on it? does somebody knows what are the difference between people on "network" or "connections"?

When I add a new friend, is a connection? If so, why it says "Add xxx to your network"?

Confusing!

    we use it for work, i rarely log into it though, I think connections is people that you have added and network is people who are in the same industry as you. I maybe be entirely wrong though, it always confuses me
