Is this a nil return?

So I'm trying to deal with an issue left behind by my previous partner. An ex client of ours is still in self assessment, despite moving to Canada in March 2009. I've just found out there is an outstanding 0910 return.

As he lives and works in Canada and pays tax there, I assume his UK SA100 will be nil? I know it's potentially more complicated than that. His wife lives in the UK and he does come back here. Do I need to see if he is here more than 90 days?

This is not something I would normally do, but as he doesn't need an accountant and used to be with us, I feel duty bound to look after it.

Look at 41.15 and 41.6 in tollleys - I think it'll just be a nil return but you may need to complete the supplementary pages where they ask for dates of travel.
