I'm busily trying to complete my ACCA practical experience requirment.
I don't work with a chartered person, so my workplace mentor is "unqualified", so when they sign off my practical experience I need to have it countersigned by a qualified person;
To other ACCA'ers that have been through this process, can that person be a MAAT?
I think it can be, as it says a member of a uk accountancy body.
thanks.

Hi PGM
My line manager was unqualified too but had 35 years experience. When I was studying I went to a presentation by ACCA regarding the work place mentor so asked about this and they said they would take his signature as he had so much experience.
On that basis I'm sure an MAAT will be ok0 -
Thanks Blue W, very similar situation for me, my mentor has at least 35 years experience also.
And as we know on here, so much "relevant, significant experience" is at least as good as a newbie chartered

Double check with ACCA
Hi PGM
I'm applying for my practising certificate with ACCA. My previous employer didn't have approved training status when I was there so I contacted ACCA in Glasgow whether I could use this experience on my PCTR form.
This is an extract of their reply email:
"Members who have obtained training outside of an ACCA approved employer, equivalent to that which would have been obtained in an ACCA approved employer, may request ACCA to administratively backdate the approved employer status for the firm(s) or oganisation(s) in which training was obtained when submitting their application for a practising certificate. Where training has been obtained in industry/commerce, providing that training has been supervised by a member from one of the CCAB bodies (i.e. ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI, CIMA, CIPFA) the training will be recognised as being of an equivalent standard."
Based on that answer an AAT member can't sign off your records assuming you work in industry of course! It may be different if you are working in Practice.
It is probably worth double checking with them before submitting all the forms ( What a pain they are too!) as BW has indicated they can make exceptions to this rule.0 -
Its just membership I'm applying for, so hopefully that won't be as difficult as a practising cert.0
