Are there 'rules' as to what qualifies as a van?

Title says it all really! Speaking to someone today who wants to a VW camper and call it a van for work purposes. They do need a van but I have a feeling there must be rules somewhere over what is technically a van and what isn't.

HMRC van definitions
A van is defined as a goods vehicle with a maximum legal laden weight of 3,500 kilograms.
HMRC van definitions
Car derived vans and combi vans
For Motor Homes:-
Motor homes and motor caravans
Motor homes and motor caravans aren't considered to be cars for VAT purposes so long as certain features have been incorporated into the vehicle. These are:
a permanently installed sink and cooking facilities
seating arrangements so that diners can sit at the meal table
at least one bed which has a minimum length of 1.82 metres
a permanently installed fresh water tank with a minimum capacity of ten litres
These features have been agreed between HMRC and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.Sandy

Well a VW definately isn't going to be a van then!
Isn't wasn't for VAT that was the issue it was more for claiming capital allowances but am presuming that it will have to go through as a car rather than a van? Presumably I'll find the information online/in a book somewhere however if someone does know the answer I'll be very grateful
