Does anyone else feel like they are going around in circles studying for this exam. I have done 2 exam style questions this weekend and my answers are nothing like the ones in the book. I just feel that the last few months have been a waste of time:(
Am I alone or does anyone else feel somewhat victimised by this paper.

hi glynis
i found when i was studying for F8 my answers were nothing like the model answers, so with it being a written paper it can be hard to know if your on the right track. what helped me was attending a question based day at kaplan doing exam style questions to time and getting them marked whilst you're there. this helped me see if i was picking up the key points in my answers as they were not as in depth as the model answers.0 -
With the wordy questions I just read the questions and answers in the revision book without actually attempting them.0

Upset is not the word I just no longer feel like I can do this exam. I have spent 6 hours studying and I did 3 questions and couldn't get anywhere near the answers.
I am alienating my family and just can't understand why this qualification is so difficult. It's like they don't want you to qualify.
Any inspiration will help.

Sounds to me like you need a break, a walk and some time away from your books!
Spent some time with your family tonight.
Maybe go back to it tomorrow and give yourself a nice evening off?
Alienating your family is not a good idea, you need their support if you want to have the time to get through this!0 -
Thankyou Rinske I think you may be right. I feel like this exam is killing me as it's so hard to study for. I have stopped for tonight and will try again tomorrow as I feel completely drained with it all. God only knows how I am going to get through this.0

Oh Glynis, I have come across so many students who get fed up with this paper but do in fact know the stuff to pass it. Don't be hard on yourself if you have covered the syllabus you are probably more than half way there now.
I taught a number of students this week on revision who were feeling low on this paper and took some questions in to mark and they were scoring 60%+ on them. If you are marking your own papers you are not being objective for a start so you need to get your tutor or a tutor to mark them for you. Real markers of the exam are objective and qualified to mark the papers, without disrespect Glynis, you are not.
Have you taken my advice on board from last time? Have you read the examiners approach article? Have you also read the article by Steve collins who is the assessor for F8. The examiner for this paper has not written any technical articles, apart from her approach article which is vital, but examiner and the assessor articles are particularly important ones to read. Have you also practiced past exams from Dec 07. All this is vital.

Thanks Julia but I know my standard and I'm nowhere near.
I have read the examiners article and Steve article and frankly they're hopeless. They don't help me to understand the subject they just tell me what I should and shouldn't do in the exam and Steves article just talks about one subject that is mainly accounting anyway and hardly anything to do with F8.
I've just had my fill of F8 and the sooner this is done the better. Will you be doing my F8 question day as I am coming to London to do it?0 -

as I keep saying, positive minds breed positive outcomes! Change your perception!I have read the examiners article and Steve article and frankly they're hopeless. That's the idea of examiner's approach articles, to steer you in the right direction. The assessor's article is F8 related but you need to understand some accounting standards to be able to do F8- this is the fundamentals of audit! ACCA examiners and assessors work closely together so you should at least try to understand these 2 articles.I've just had my fill of F8 and the sooner this is done the better. Will you be doing my F8 question day as I am coming to London to do it?
I won't be doing F8 revision after next week as I am in the Czech Republic teaching there but good luck.0 -

Glynis, you need to remember that the model answers are an absolute perfect answer. Nobody could ever possibly produce an answer under exam conditions of that standard. You will probably find that there are more possible marks in the answer than could be awarded.
Also, you only need to get half of the question right to pass anyway!
I found the law exam daunting, it was 100% written, and the model answers were pages long. However, I attended a revision course, they told me to aim for about 70% in each answer. As each question was worth 10 marks it literally meant writing about 7 or 8 concise, well explained sentences.0
