Vat Invoice Query

Hello.

Placed an order with Amazon Marketplace. They quoted nett amount for goods but then charged with Vat included.

Requested a Vat invoice but reply as follows.
"am in the middle of the process to applying VAT number please help to send a massage at the end of Sep I will able to provide one for you by then, sorry we are just new launched business."

(Firstly I think they meant "message" and not "massage"...)
Secondly - is the Vat charge acceptable?

    If they have applied for a VAT number with a start date prior to the invoice date then yes, they can charge you an amount for VAT (as they will have to account for it when they get registered).

    You cannot claim back the VAT until they send you a proper VAT invoice, which they must do when they get their VAT number.

    I think they mean message, but maybe they are trying their luck with a massage too?! :lol:
