Who to study with?

Hi,

I was looking for some advice as to who might be the best tuition provider for ACCA.

I'm used to self-study with my ACCA papers but have decided to give a classroom taught course a try.

I'm really surprised so many tuition providers like BPP and Kaplan start their courses in March for a June exam and youcan only get access to the materials two weeks before the course starts.

What are your experiences? Can you get access to materials earlier?

    Hi Mark,

If you are already used to studying from home, why don't you try the Online Classroom that BPP/Kaplan provide?

I sat F4 & F5 as home study, using the BPP text books, as they hadn't launched the Online Classroom at the time, but I've used it for every paper since.

You get the same course notes that a student attending lessons would receive, and access to online tuition for each chapter. The course notes are far easier to understand than the text books. My only complaint is that they sometimes lack the depth.

The courses usually start about 1 or 2 weeks after the exam results. At first I thought that this would not be enough time, but it is!! The course is broken down into 3 or 4 sections, and for each you are given a timetable with approx 12hrs of study to complete within 2 or 3 weeks.

The revision starts about 1 month before the exam. It does seem quite daunting, but I've never had a problem.

If you've got any more questions let me know.

PS. I've noticed your other posts regarding F5 - when I sat mine a few years ago, I convinced myself that I'd failed as I missed out a question worth about 15marks (partly due to time pressure). However, when the results came through I'd passed. So try not to worry too much!

    Thanks for that Richard.

I suppose I'm daunted starting the course in March because I've been so used to using the clumpy 380 odd page
study texts for all of my learning.

It will certainly be interesting to see how much easier things are with the course notes provided.

Thanks for the encouragement about F5. I truly think I've failed but I suppose you never can tell really.

The text books cover everything in the syllabus that COULD be examined, whereas the course notes focus on the core areas that get examined regularly. This does occasionally mean that topics are missed, but I've often found that any knowledge 'gaps' are filled when you start practising the past papers.

I've studied this way for paper F6 onwards (I've just taken P3 & P5), and would recommend it to anyone who wishes to study at home.

Agreed! I used BPP for all but one of my papers, I can promise you that, whilst you may worry that everything isn't covered because its done in a short space of time, it is very intense focused study. I did taught courses and managed my own revision and that worked really well for me.
Good luck but I'm sure you won't regret it.
