CIMA once again!!

I'm ok with consolidated until its talking about unrealised profits, then I go a bit heywire lol.
I work as and Assistant Accountant at a Refractory (manufacturers refractory materials). I don't envy you doing both papers together I am trying to build up to that.
I am also studying for F1 next week (as well as E1) and am finding it hard to learn everything! The problem is due being really busy at work & working stupid hours plus moving house I haven't done anywhere near enough study as needed, until the past couple of weeks! Luckily (but expensive as self-funded) I did attend tuition courses both units which has helped in understanding how to tackle the more complex consolidation questions. But similarly I am finding unrealised profits tricky, plus learning all the workings required! I am also finding cashflow statements a bit difficult as I'm finding it hard to remember all of the pro-forma.
Good luck with the revision and exam(s) next week everyone!

I'm also self funded so haven't been to any tution classes as way above our budget at the moment. Its actually starting to sink in now so its back to the old practice practice practice makes perfect.
Learning the Proformas is really hard. I use the "a students guide to IFRS" book as its great at getting you to remember the proformas. Worked well for AAT now need to see if it works the same for CIMA lol.
Chinless, its nice and encouraging to see someone near the end of the tunnel... I mentioned the log to my boss when we were discussing CIMA but he seems to think I was being a bit premature in wanting to look at it so early on in my studies.
Is there somewhere on the CIMA website that gives you a step by step whats required?

I'm studying towards my F5 in ACCA and feel much the same as everyone on here.
Just trying to stay focused but always approach the exams with a sense of trepidation.
Goodness knows what the professional level is going to be like!
I miss the simplicity of the AAT with smaller syllabuses you can develop your skills on and fairly consistent exam topics.
ACCA always seem to want you to know everything then test you on 10% of the content.0 -

Glad to hear its not only us CIMA students feeling the same lol!0 -
No it's not just you Jo.
Just have to do your best. What more can any of us do?0 -

Yes there is...
http://www.cimaglobal.com/en-gb/Students/2010-professional-qualification/Test-of-professional-competence-in-management-accounting/Part-A-initial-professional-development--work-based-practical-experience/
Esme - oddly enough CIMA doesn't refer to it as a logbook, but every person I've talked to in person refers to it as that. It's your Practical Experience Record - PER - basically four pieces of paperwork, including an 8-15 page report, detailing your professional experience as an accountant.
It's Monday... and the exams start tomorrow so GOOD LUCK everyone!

OMG! I've had a two second looksie at the PER and now have no idea why i'm worrying over an itsy bitsy exam its the log I should worry over lol.
Seriously thanks for the link CW I will look at that in more detail after the exam and see if I can make any start on it.0 -
well good luck to you all this week.
i am not sitting my e1 tomorrow as i am nowhere near ready for it. i have recently changed jobs and it is 99% busier than my last.
i will be booking for the may ones, and doing e1 and f1 too.
again good luck and i hope you all get nice papers

Tracy i'm sorry to hear that. I thought I hadn't seen you on as much lately. Have you paid for the exam? I don't think im ready but i've decided that as its paid for I will be silly not to at least have a go and get one out the way. Even if I don't pass it will be invaluable experience for me and for you.
Do you get to sit your exams in Germany?0 -
thanks Jo
Yes i have paid for it and i did think the same as you, but i dont see the point in travelling for 45 minutes to sit for a couple of hours and then travel home again, so the decision was made about a week ago, and i phoned the exam centre today.
yes i do sit the exams in germany and the education centre are really good with me.0 -
thanks Jo

Sounds like your mind is well and truly made up then
Its good that you can sit the exams over in Germany, that would make some expense if you had to come over here to sit them.
How are you finding the course you brought? I have ditched the CIMA online for the Kaplan book and Self Study. I found the online content really baffled me but when I started back with the basic book it started to sink in.0 -
Good luck all! I know its too late for those of you sitting E1 or E3.
Tracy, it sounds like a good plan to me. I should have done the same I think, but my decision is to sit P1 tomorrow anyways and just hope for the best (as in 40% instead of lower), but I think I could have done without the pressure, but then it takes me only 15 minutes to get to the venue, so I might as well go.0 -
Good luck everyone!
I've got P2 tomorrow and F1 Thursday, not ready for either but am enjoying sitting in my PJ's all day revising rather than being at work... Although I'm pretty sure that trying to learn stuff I don't know shouldn't be happening this late on!!!
x0 -
I would love to have had a pj day but don't think my boss would have appreciated me turning up at work in them
, I found that revision is showing me I know more than I thought I did so thats pleasing.
GOOD LUCK ALL for whatever exams you are sitting/have sat today.0 -
Good luck guys!
P1 tomorrow and F1 Thursday for me.0 -
Good luck everyone doing F1 today.... My last exam

Hurray all exams are now over and we can all relax and look forward to the results.
Any thoughts or feelings about the exams?
I only took P1 and I thought it was a fair paper. If I had actually put the proper time in it, instead of being all busy with personal life issues, I would have found it an easy paper!
How about you all? How did you get on?0 -

Took F1 which I have to say was a fair paper, unfortuately I made huge huge **** ups on part C and therefore think I've blown it. Came out of the exam realising I'd done the consolidation wrong as included both as a subsidury when 1 clearly wasn't and messed up also with the construction contracts. Both of my SOFP failed to balance but its a learning curve anyway
Hope everyone ele did better than me.0 -

If it's any consolation, I never did an AAT exam question that didn't balance but when I did ACCA I never did an exam where the accounts did balance!! I still passed all mine so don't worry about it.0 -

Urrrrrrrgh.... took me ages to get head in gear, mainly because it was an unfamiliar setting to me (sitting on PC for the first time) and the worst exam nerves I've had in the whole of CIMA which was again probably because this all felt very new - T4 is a very different paper.
Eventually got stuck in, over ran but managed to make up time and cover all the little bits at the end that poor time managers don't get to (according to my teacher). So I covered all the bases.... and did the best I could in the time. Fingers crossed!
SO glad it's over. I am SO tired tonight.
The next challenge is to compile and submit my practical experience - I've decided I have to get this done before I get my T4 results on Dec 15th. Mainly because, if I don't do it now, I'll put it off again and again....
Anyway. I now have my "life" back. Hurrah!

Hi Jo,
I didn't get either of my SOFP to balance either so don't worry, and I found the construction contracts a little confusing to account for. Hopefully we will pick up marks for workings, format and the parts we have done correctly.0 -
Hi Guys,
In the P1 exam how did you find the variances question in section c? I had a major rush on to complete that question as I had only 25 mins to do it.
I calculated a material planning and operating variance for material A & B, a mix and yield variance too. I think I also calculated the labour and overhead variances. Were these requied in the question? Which variances did they want?
Matt0 -
Hi Matt,
I calculated the full statement, so the planning price variance for A and B, the operating price variances for all three and the mix and yield variances. I also did the labour rate and efficiency and overhead efficiency and expenditure, but I can't remember whether the volume one was in there too, but I balanced in the end.
But the question asked for material variances which kind of threw me whether I should have calculated the labour and overhead variances or not.0 -
I thought F1 and P2 were both alright papers, still not sure if I passed tho.
Messed up the final quetion on P2 and also wasn't sure what to do with the construction contracts in F1. Also a bit annoyed I spent the whole evening before on Cash flow statements and there wasn't a single question on it!!
Now the long wait until Jan!0 -
Now that its close to result day, how are you all feeling about it?
I'm a little nervous, but also looking forward to getting the results, just because then at least I know!
Also, in the past few weeks since the exams, I moved from living together, to living on my own and have been shopping for a lot of the small stuff on an almost daily base, so I'm actually looking forward to getting back into the swing and regularity of studying again, as my life feels very disorganised!
That said, I also worry about the idea of having to pick up studying again, as it means that all my free time will be gone again!
Anyone else feeling the same way?0 -
I can't believe we should know our results in less than 24 hours!
What sort of time have people received their results email in the past?
I getting a bit scarred about finding out now, as I'm not expecting to pass both exams that I sat (E1 & F1)!0 -
I had it somewhere around 5 oclock in the morning. Needless to say, I only checked when I got up, so at least knew right away.
Don't count on fails, until they actually come through. Stay positive and hope for the best, you never know where the examiners awarded points for stuff you didn't expect at all!0 -

Thanks for your kind words of encouragement Rinske and I hope your results are passes, at least we will know soon.
I'm not planning to stay up all night so I'll just check and see if I have an email in the morning!0 -
Good luck everyone.
I'm feeling a little bit worried!! Think I'll probably wake up early and look then.
Sorry to hear you're living on your own now Rinske, hope everything else is ok x0
