CIMA Exemptions

I'm currently studying level 3 and am looking to progress to level 4 in September this year. However, due to circumstances, I chose to bypass level 2 AAT and took a book-keeping course instead. As this was not classed as a level 2 subject, I have been classified by my college as a level 2 'jumper' but, I am hearing different stories of the exemption after AAT.

Firstly, will I be able to gain the MAAT status without having completed level 2?

Secondly, will having just level 3 & 4 AAT, will I qualify for exemption from the CBA level CIMA?

Oh, before you ask, I have thought about posting this question on the CIMAsphere, but it looks like it takes a month for any answers there

Looks to me from the CIMA exemption database that you can claim exemptions based on the level 4 units you have completed

    http://www.cimaglobal.com/Study-with-us/Exemptions/Exemption-search/Association-of-Accounting-Technicians-AAT/?qualification=3032

ETA: You don't need level 2 for AAT membership

Thanks for the AAT link - searched but obviously missed that one!

As for the CIMA, I'd seen that page myself, but it was various people saying that they seemed to think the whole course was needed. This did sound peculiar when given the fact in AP 1 & 2 you will go over all of BA 1 etc... Thanks for the feedback :)

    Hi

I didn't take level 2 either and was able to claim exemptions from the 5 CIMA papers, CIMA are only interested in Level 4. It used to be a case with ACCA (may have changed now) that you needed level 3 AND 4 to claim the exemptions, but they too didn't seem concerned with level 2.

    Thanks Neil,

If you've gone this route, and only done the 3 & 4 then I'll be looking for the same - I was toying with doing the level 2 alongside my current level 3 otherwise - I'll save the money and invest it for next years studies! :D

    Hi

CIMA only wanted to see evidence of level 4, at the time AAT had an arrangement with CIMA (and ACCA) to forward your details of AAT completion (providing you had completed the level at the exam session for which results were being released). Not sure if they still do this.

I also by passed level two as had years of experience and after qualifing with AAT got my exemptions from the certificate level of CIMA.

The CIMA helpline was very helpful when I phoned asking for advice before commencing studies with them.

If you look on page 4 you simply need the AAT Level 4 diploma to start at the operational level... :)

Thanks guys! It really helps to hear there are people that have gone this route saying so :)

As I am still searching for the elusive job, I was hoping to not have to dig into already depleted funds to do level 2 - I guess I had better pass 3 & 4 now, but seeing that I actually enjoy this, I do believe that I will succeed. :D
