Milage claims....

Hi All

Just wondered if you could help with this question, i think the awnser is obvious but just wanted to check as cant find anything on HMRC...

A person is full time employed and claims milage back as an expense from his company at the usual 45pence per mile upto 10k and 25pence per mile there after.

He also works as a consultant in his spare time which he pays himself milage expense.

So the question is, does the 10k apply per job or is it overall, and how will HMRC know what milage he has claimed through his employed work?:crying:

Thank you in advance for any advice!

I think it's per job but don't have legislation to back my view up...

gets out Tolley's legislation and wonders why Dsindle didn't sign up for ATT with me :tongue_smilie:

    The legislation says....

The reference to "the first 10,000 miles" is the total number of miles of business travel in relation to the employment, or any associated employment...

One employment is associated with another if:

    The employer is the same
The employers are partnerships or bodies and an individual or another partnership or body has control over both of them
The employers are associated companies within the meaning given by section 449 of CTA 2010...

So, I would say that the 10,000 is for each of his roles.....

    xx

Thank you all, thats what i thought, but assumed that HMRC would have some sly obscure rule in place to put a stop to it, lol! :001_smile:
