It does depend on who you are working for and how you are working. Are you planning to do book-keeping by the hour for several clients, or work just for one or two? In this area, East Anglia, I would say £15 is achievable.

Depends then if you are going to be employed or self-employed? Employed I would say that you could only expect £10-£12 per hour, £15 if self-employed. Hope that helps. Of course that is for my area and it also depends on how much they want you to work for them!

I don't do any regular bookkeeping just tidying of year end accounts type stuff and a bit for a few VAT returns. I charge fixed fees mostly but where it is not possible then around £20 per hour..

My mum is a bookkeeper but specialises in helping businesses that have been let down by bookkeepers or who have tried themselves and got into a mess. She can charge a premium for some of these and she varies between £15 and £30 per hour.

    Hi there

I'm in Oxfordshire and started out charging £15/hr for basic bookkeeping just over a year ago. I now charge £17.50 to £20 per hour depending on the complexity of the work involved.

This seems to be average in my area.

    Hi,

I am in West Sussex and charge between £15 an £20 for bookkeeping dependant on how much work is involved.

Thank you all who commented, especially Deborah in West Sussex - most relevant to my area. I have already advised a rate of £15 per hour, so it looks like I got it about right. Cheers!:thumbup1:
