Filing old P45s

I've just taken over the payroll for a client I've been doing bookkeeping for for a couple of years and there appear to be quite a few employees on the payroll who've not worked here for a long time, some of whom there are letters from HMRC asking for P45s to be submitted. If the employee was on the 2011/12 P35 but hasn't worked at all in 2012/13 do I put their leaving date as the last pay date in 2011/12 or todays date? and if they didn't work in 2011/12 or 2012/13 and weren't on the 2011/12 P35?

    Hi Jodie

I've been told that the leaving date should be their actual leaving date regardless of when they were last paid. As I presume you won't have this info, I would just go with their last pay date. If you use today's date, HMRC will probably expect them to be on this year's P35.
