Does anyone know if you can enter now for December exams or if you have to wait until they send the results. I am doing F8 only in December?

Hi Glynis
I believe you can enter now - my understanding is that you can enter at any time for the next exam session. ACCA sent me an email a few days ago encouraging me to enter now even though the first deadline isn't until 8th September - I think they're just trying to get our money sooner!
Good luck with F8 this time round.0 -
Thank you. I have a new job now until March next year so I am going to focus on F8 from this weekend but I'm not looking forward to it and can't afford tuition so home study it is.0

Good luck, try not to let it get you stressed.0

I self studied F8, it is possible. I agree it's not a nice paper, but often the answers are there in the question - such as when they ask for weaknesses in the scenario, just go through it and see what you think isn't quite right - e.g. the cash is banked by the junior member of staff without being double checked. Imagine you own the business in the question but don't have any say in how it is run - what sort of things would you expect them to be doing, or want to check yourself, so that you are happy the profit they tell you you've made is right and they haven't understated it and ran off with your money!!
Hope the job works out for you.0 -
Hi Glynis
Have you considered any of the online courses? They aren't cheap but are cheaper than the classroom courses. There are recorded versions (you can view when and as often as you like) and live versions available, the live ones allow you to ask questions and can give you access to the recorded versions also.

Hi everyone,
Not been on here for ages lol.
Just a question for Rozzi if you don't mind.
I'm studying towards my F8 now but just wondered if the book I'm using contains absolutely everything I need to
know? I'm using a study text 2012 produced by Kaplan. I know the BPP books I used to use had everything in them.
Plus how much of the ISA's do you need to know for the exam. Just a basic knowledge of each one or very in depth?
Thanks

My book from EBay arrived today. God only knows how I am going to pass this looking at the size of the textbook.0

Hello Glynis
You need to draw up a study plan to ensure you cover the syllabus. Does the text book have any study planners included. If not, look at how many chapters there are and how many weeks you have till the exam and try to divide the book over the weeks leading up to the exam allowing time for revision.
Good luck.
How is the new job going?

I'm in the process of revising for F8 (Audit and Assurance) using a Kaplan study text and passcards.
I see towards the end of the study text there are a number of ISA's that need to be learnt for the paper.
Are there any other standards you need to know for this paper? Nothing is mentioned in the text.

Hi Mark
Of course I don't mind
I only used BPP so wouldn't know much about the Kaplan books, I'm afraid. Does it have a study guide in the front? You can access the study guides for each module on the ACCA website, and see if all this is in your book, I did this once when I was using an older textbook (not for F8), to see if anything else had been added.
I don't think I knew anything about any of the ISAs!! I don't know any of the numbers at all, so I think you only need basic knowledge of them. I don't think there was any questions along the line of "Please describe ISA 230" (completely made up number!), it would just be the knowledege of the ISA you would use in the scenarios. The more time you have to study, it wouldn't hurt to learn more about the ISAs, but I would focus more on the tests - cut off, completeness etc, and being able to identify weaknesses in scenarios and how they can be improved.
Good luck!0 -
That's good advice. Thanks Rozzi.
Just sometimes hard to see the wood for the trees with the papers.

Mark, I would recommend you getting a copy of Alan Lewin's book - I think it's called 'Students guide to auditing'. This is not a text book, but use it to complement the study texts you're using. It's similar to Claire Finch's IAS book if you've ever used that. Alan is the previous F8 examiner.0
