AAT to ACA

Hi

I have just passed my AAT and am hoping to start sitting ACA exams as soon as I can. I am just getting a little confused with all the exemptions.

To start - do I need to sort out my exemptions before I can sit an exam?
On the website they have called the units numbers but on my statement of achievement I can't tell which unit relates to which number.

Does anyone have any help on this?

Thanks

Danielle

    Hi Danielle,
if you download their AAT-ACA fast track on the website, page 8 details the credit for prior learning.
You can have up to 5 credits - 3 credits come automatically with completing level 4, Assurance if you took External auditing and Principle of taxations if you took Personal Tax and Business tax. You are also eligible to sit a top-up paper in Financial accounting rather than the whole module.

Not sure whether you should apply for exemptions before you sit an exam. They each cost £65!

    Good luck, hope this helps!

You can sit exams that you are not planning on applying for exemptions from. Once you have sat the exam you couldn't then claim the exemption.

You can claim exemptions from 5 out of 6 modules at the professional stage ( to do this you will need to sit 3 optional papers at level 4 - both tax units and auditing). You can also apply to sit the AAT/ACA top up paper in financial accounting as opposed to sitting the whole 3 hour paper.

Before you sit any exams, if you are planning on claiming any exemptions ACA will ask for a copy of for AAT statement of acheivement - You could post your certificates (which takes forever) but they do accept a PDF statment from the AAT. All you need to do is contact AAT explain you need a copy of your statement for ACA exemptions and they should get it over to you pretty quickly (Think I had mine within 48 hours) I found the process pretty straightforward albeit expensive !
