CIMA November Exams

I am starting to feel the pressure with studying now, with my workload constantly increasing as I take on more responsibility at work, I am finding time to even do homework pretty difficult. I've also gone from Kaplan day release classes (for AAT) to BPP live online evening classes (for CIMA - not really allowed day release anymore) and I'm still adapting.

I am more nervous than I've ever been as I have not been picking things up as quickly as I normally do (finding evening classes hard after working all day!) and would like to hear about how other former AAT students have found the transition.

Not sure if it's the difference in Kaplan/BPP teaching styles or if it is CIMA, but I am having to re-learn how to approach and answer questions which I'm finding slightly frustrating!

Any thoughts would be great.

    Hi Louise,

Don't panic! CIMA is a big step up from AAT but plenty of people have made the transition. I have always done evening classes and it is hard work but it's not forever. There are still two months before exams so plenty of time.

I would advise not even looking at past papers yet. Start doing all the questions in the book first. Choose your favourite area first and nail that. That will give you the confidence to take on the rest. You'll pick things up, there is huge crossover between level 4 and F1 & P1.

You said that you have an increasing workload which could be an hindrance but I think to pass these exams some sacrifices must be made. Study as much as possible but the main thing is believing that you can pass these exams. What I l keep telling myself is that if Joe Soap can pass, well then so can I!

Professional exams after CIMA often come along at the same time as working in more senior (and better paid) jobs.
The junior level jobs that some AAT students have tend to being filled by less experienced and less qualified members of the team.
I have been interested with my new Saturday morning class. The students are noticeably sharper than my Thursday evening class. I think this reflects the time of day.

It can be quite a struggle to take-in quite complex new topics after a long day at work, so trying after a night's sleep seems to be easier.

CIMA is a big step up from AAT and towards revision time you'll find yourself doing a lot of question practice! I wouldn't worry about it all sinking in just yet, it wasn't until revision time and question practice that I had those magical 'aha!' moments and I finally began to understand what I was doing (once I figured out how to answer the questions using the verbs). My CIMA classes are also after work and I often feel really tired during the class, but as they are recorded I simply watch them again at the weekend.

Thanks guys - you have given me a confidence boost!

I think I am a bit of a fuss pot sometimes and I worry too much! There is also the added pressure of studying at the same time as my colleagues who are more experienced and older, so I am always finding that I need to prove myself.
