Bit sad :(

Got home today and my letter from the college about the ACCA course had arrived telling me where to go. Obviously, since speaking to other people on here I realise I can't study and be an MIP so will have to tell them I can't do it.
Just a bit sad as I was so excited.

Awww

You're enrolled on ATT though, right? And then if you want to be chartered you can go onto CTA!
Be excited about what you are doing, not what you can't - if you've made the decision, stick with it and be happy with it. No point letting yourself get down about it

Yep, enrolled on ATT and have entered personal tax exam in November (must be mad as am studying EVERY single second available to me!). I think I wanted the whole 'going back to college experience' and I'd been given a day off to go. Bah humbug. Onwards and upwards like you say :001_smile:0

Hi Sarah,
Did you say you can't study ACCA and be MIP at the same time, did I understand correctly?0 -
I'm in a similar place.
I've been planning on going to Manchester Met to do the combined degree and ICAEW programme, but I had an email from them on Friday saying that the professional stage of the course is not going to be starting until 2014.
I don't have a traning contract so right now all my plans are completely up in the air. I'll find a way around it cause I always do, but I does feel like 18 months of really slogging to get accepted (and having an offer !) have been somewhat in vain as I can't progress any further right now

This is true??? Why can't you do both :confused1:
Because the ACCA won't let you! It's in their rules that if you are self employed (so not just AAT MIPs, even non-qualified self employed people) you can only carry out payroll, VAT, and bookkeeping to trial balance. So no accounts preparation or tax.0 -
I suppose you could find MIP work which only includes bookkeeping to TB.
Bit of a pain that.

ACCA are very strict with this. If you are a student member or member of ACCA you cannot carry out much more than bookkeeping/VAT/payroll without an ACCA Practising Certificate. People have been expelled from ACCA for breaking these rules. Problem is that many people are unaware of these rules, perhaps ACCA need to make this point much clearer when people register as a student.0

What do you have to do to get the ACCA Practising Certificate ?0
-
Unless the rules have changed you have to demonstrate 3 years sufficient practice experience, one of which can be pre qualification. Should be able to get further details on the ACCA website.0

Bit sad too:-(
I have just read this and I too was unaware of ACCA barring you from being an MIP whilst studying until I read here - I am beginning to wish I had opted for CIMA (maybe they have same rules, I dont know) as I dont currently work in Practice but work in Business and I am not currently doing book-keeping etc. I have the knowledge but need to gain the experience and operating as an MIP was going to be my way of achieving this and hopefully being able to work from home.
I am finding it hard to get a job in Accounts due to lack of directly relevant experience and I am studying for career progression to make the transition into Accountancy. I long to work in Accountancy position (industry or Practice based)as I enjoy preparing/analysing a set of accounts. I am hoping that once I get F4-9 under my belt I would be able to get a job as a 'Part Qualified Accountant' through a recruitment agency. Is this a reasonable expectation to make?
Can any of you offer me some further advice as to how to achieve my goal of making the transition?0 -

"CIMA does not prevent students from working in practice, but it does not encourage them to do so."0
