Hi Guys,

Im starting cima this month and need to decide which module to study first?
Im starting at operational level as i am AAT qualified so have to decide between the E0, F0 AND P0
Can anyone give me any ideas or pointers on how they decided which module to study for first and why?

If it stems from which modules they enjoyed during AAT , i enjoyed them all so im baffled lol and also would it be too much to study 2 at once or should i stick to 1 for the first exam and see how i go?

I will be attending weekend classrooms with Kaplan Liverpool - (I have applied im just waiting for confirmation)

Thanks in advance

    Hi there,

Don't know if I can help you really.

I am self-studying for F1 financial operations only at the moment.

Going through the textbook, I can see how much cross-over content there is from the FNST exam, which is very pleasing!

Definitely keep all your notes, if any from your FNST exam!!!

There is only about three new standards to learn if you took the older (read:harder) FNST exam that had (21 potentially examinable standards)

I understand that AAT have tapped out and only assess you on 14 standards now, because so many people were failing FNST.

Everything that you did under FNST is examinable and a little bit more. After discovering this, I have even more respect for the complexity of the older FNST exam.

I may end up doing more than one exam, but I do want some semblance of a life!

Each book is about 600 pages long and if content is not fresh in your mind it will take time to understand what is expected.

Sorry if I did not help.

    Hi,

I went from AAT to CIMA and I did some research into what route to take the exams. It was recommended by BPP to do E1 & F1, then P1 & F2 and then E2 & P2. So I did this and now (very nervously) waiting for my E2 & P2 results on Tuesday. If you can do two at a time then do, it will speed up your progress through the exams and it is what the majority of people do. I was worried about standards in F1 and no standards questions came up, I think the attitude within CIMA is let the ACCA'ers worry about standards, although there is a bit more waffle about that sort of stuff in F2.

There is a huge amount of crossover between Level 4 and F1 & P1, so doing F1 first would be a good exam to get off the mark and into CIMA. Everything will be new in E1 and it is all written, you can't avoid it so just get stuck in is my advice. It's not that hard, there is a lot of common sense involved.

One other thing to consider is that the exams are over 3 days and are always on a Tuesday (E1 am, E2 pm) Wednesday (P1 am, P2 pm) & Thursday (F1 am, F2 pm) so if you did choose E1 & F1 you would have the most time available between exams.

Good luck with whatever you choose, I study with Kaplan in London and prefer their books to BPP.

    Hey, folander.

You say that all the content will be new in the enterprise pillar, but if I have studied A-level business studies surely some stuff will crop up?

Price elasticity of demand, Kanban, Kaizen, quality circles?

    Sorry Magician,

I was saying that from an AAT viewpoint it would be all new stuff, I didn't study business studies but you're right some stuff will come up, such as Quality circles as a part of TQM and Kaizen. So E1 won't be as bad for you then. it is hard to write for 3 hours non stop tho.

    Hi Nicola,

I went straight from AAT to CIMA and I went with Kaplan too. They advised me to start with P1 and F1 as they follow on from AAT modules like Financial Statements and Financial Performance. You should find that there's a lot in these that you already know. If you're doing classroom then you could probably do two at once but it ultimately depends on how much of your free time you want to dedicate to studying. I'd recommend two at once as when you get to strategic you will have to do three at once (as you have to take all three at your first attempt). In my last sitting I took F2 and E1 and found that a nice combination, just waiting on my results tomorrow like everyone else and then I can start E2 and P2!

    Good luck with your studies!
