Hi,
The reason you don't see ACA/ICAEW mentioned so much is that you need to be with an approved employer to do the course. Therefore people on that route are probably having all their courses, books and revision courses paid for by their employer so probably have a good support network elsewhere. It is generally a graduate route so a lot of them will not have gone though the AAT route beforehand and therefore probably not even aware that this forum exists!
I believe there is a bit of snobbery in the accountancy world that rate ACA higher than the others, however ACCA and CIMA members probably disagree. The reason for this is that most people can start ACCA and CIMA but those who start ACA have had to already prove their capabilities to an employer. However, my opinion is that the exams will soon weed out the less capable students so by the time the ACA student and their ACCA/CIMA colleagues have passed all their exams, they will all have proved themselves anyway and all will be classed as chartered accountants.0 -
Speaking to our training people at work, as Nps suggested traditionally ACA was the 'gentleman's qualification' and was considered superior, but that snobbery has more or less died a death and the last remnants will disappear as the older generation retire! Apparently the majority of firms now consider ACCA and ACA to be equal, at least when it comes to employing people. As above, ACA tends to be a graduate qual, and certainly where I work the majority of AATers go on to ACCA - I'm told it's a simple matter of the wording used, ACA is quite academic and suits the university student, whereas ACCA is more 'real world' and easier to interpret for us lay people! I don't know the figures but certainly some of the graduate trainees are also doing ACCA.
All hearsay as I've no experience of either myself, leaning towards ACA just to be different!0
