I have just joined, thanks Jo! And thanks BeccaLou, congrats to you too!
Hmmmm i haven't really thought about what other paper to take, i'm currently at university doing tax (on my placement year at the mo) so am feeling a pull toward business compliance due to its much higher pass rates. It was a struggle to revise for PT even without other exams to think about. However this is only really on the basis that i complete an exam whilst also studying at uni, if uni proves too much i'll likely wait until that's completed.
A few ex grant thornton tax employees who worked in the medium sized firm i worked in said i should just follow the easiest route to membership unless i already know what i would like to specialise in, as really its just the qualification that matters not the modules. So likely business compliance in any case.
What was/is your route? Have you done the law e-assessment? That worries me a lot more than the exam..0 -

I have the law book now and have found it hard to study the past few weeks especially in this heat
I am planning to sit PTAX next year and was also thinking Business Compliance, however at an AAT branch meeting I got chatting to a MIP who thinks I may be better placed studying VAT... I have a while to think about it. I also need to fit Ethics in somewhere.
I will being speaking to my pal Becca re VAT as that is her next module so will get some views/thoughts from her... and anyone else who has sat this module.~ An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest ~Benjamin Franklin0 -

I don't agree with this, I think it completely matters what papers you choose. I wouldn't choose the trusts exam because I don't deal with that at work and have no plans to. I have chosen VAT because it is what I enjoy and what I use at work. I'm not doing ATT 'for the qual' I'm doing it for the knowledge and to further my career, the letters/qual are second to that. But everyone is different I suppose.
I have the Law e-assessment booked for 4th Sept. It is quite boring at the moment, but it peaks every now and again with something interesting! How far into it are you? I haven't finished the book yet but plan to hopefully this week (I said that last week too!!)

Corporation Tax for me, I do accounts and ct600 all the time, so makes since for me0

jbd also 2 years full time experience is important, I have 13 years experience and still find every day things I haven't come across due to the things clients do, Uni and att can never teach you about clients lol........its only when you meet clients that you realise that you start to learn.0

I am an AAT member in practice, with clients ranging from plasterers to two payday loan companies, i'm quite aware of the constant new challenges and odd situations that present themselves on a scarily regular basis. I 'met clients' (whilst employed) way before I was MIP, in fact way before MAAT. Do you presume I left school last week and have never actually completed any practical experience? Furthermore, this week I am revising the tax returns for a ST whose previous accountant was FCA with 40 years experience, so sometimes I think competence is just as/more important than being able to say 'I've been doing it X years'.0
