Hi,

We've just started the costing unit and had a lesson last week on labour hours, overtime premiums, bonus schemes etc. The tutor told us to read the chapter of the book the week before and then gave us a sheet full of questions to do in class. The whole lot went completely over my head and I didn't understand any of it! Has anybody else had the same problem on this unit? I'm really concerned as I know there will be a central exam on this unit aswell as a skills test and I feel as though all the revision in the world would not prepare me for it. What made it worse is that a couple of the students work in payroll so they understood it straight away. It's difficult to understand some things when you don't work in that area.

Please tell me not to panic!!

Emma

I found that with costing and financial records that things went over my head. Then one day I felt like someone had switched the light on and it all became clear.

Ask your tutor for more clarification though, because you can bet that there are more people who didn't understand. If you stick with it and do extra top up reading, it will click.

Good luck
Annette0 -

It's not so difficult. Once you understand it, you will like it. It's normal that you are lost in all these for the first time. Read it over and over and ask your tutor for help if need be. I'm sure you'll get good marks for this unit.

Good Luck!

Velen0 -

Hi there I am also very worried about Costing and Reports, we are upto Short-Term decisions, with part-two of the test in April, I am just finding the whole thing hard to remember, seem to be ok'ish in the class room, but where I come to go over it and try to do some questions with out looking at the formulas I am lost. Oh Dear

We are using Osborne Books, can any one suggest another for people like me?0 -

This might not be much help, but leave the bonus, time saved section to the end. That is the hardest one to work out. Take it step by step, it does make sense in the end. What gets me though, that in the examples I have, everyone seems to earn a fantastic wage each week!0 -

Don't Panic!

It will come- Honest, but you need to go back to your tuitor and ask for help. I passed my costing last year and the exam was not so scarry as you would think. But get help now.

Les0 -

I would suggest you people to get back to books for A levels like Business Acoounting by Frank Wood or Accounting by Randall. The examples are straight forward and the explanation is so clear that you should get the basic principle with it. Then move to your AAT books, you will get a much clearer picture of costing.

I passed my exams with no difficulty. I enjoy costing now!

Waiting 4 ur comments.

Velen0
