Hi Guys,
I am starting F4 in a few weeks, have had to choose Distance Learning with recorded lectures due to costs (paying myself).
Is studying this on my own do able or am I being over ambitious?
Was going to have a look at the Open Tuition site lectures too.
I registered with ACCA last week and they are telling me that I can only F4 until my exemptions come through, does anyone know how long the internal verification process is for ICAS?
Many Thanks

    Hi
Self studying ACCA is definitely doable.

I was told ICAS verification could take up to 4 weeks though some have had theirs verified within a fortnight.

I self studied F4 - it's fine. Just lots of cases to remember. Im not sure distance learning would have been any use to me, the books covered the syllabus in plenty enough detail.

Don't worry about waiting for ICAS - you can register for ACCA exams before exemptions come through as when you register for exams, you just have to confirm that you will have completed F1-3 (or got exemptions) before you sit any exams.

    Morning, .
Was just a bit worried I may need have been being overambitious and need a proper class, I haven't paid for the exam yet.
Looking at Open Tuition F4 sounds like a lot of reading and learning and being able to put the Law into scenarios - so I am hoping I will be ok.
    Thank you for your replies

Self-study is completely achievable for all the F papers and I know some students self-study the P papers too.

Buy a current text book from BPP or Kaplan and give it a good read through once. Then move onto learning the syllabus in bite-size through passcards before practicing lot's of questions.

Examiner reports are available on the ACCA website and Opentuition is a good interaction resource.

    Good luck!

Are you only just starting too Kirsty? I have the stuff now and it all looks a bit daunting at the moment (i am using the recorded lecturers starting 10/3 with BPP).

I failed in December so this is my 1st retake. I am using the BPP lectures. my account is already working and I am planning on starting this weekend.
I know why I failed - I did not read the questions !!!!!

For anyone that's interested the exam standards are changing for F4 in December 2014. I haven't bothered reading the full details yet but I think they structure of the exam will undergo considerable change, for this reason I'm leaving it for later in the year... because it sounds easier. :001_tongue:

Haha i'm on the same boat as you, just registered for ACCA a couple of weeks ago and self studying for F4 now. It all really does look complicated atm, relating to the amount of content you need to take in.

I'm using the Kaplan material and the OpenTuition lectures are very helpful. Since F4 is offered as a CBE now, I'm thinking of taking this as soon as I'm ready and then go on to the F5 and F6 papers for the June sitting.

The structure of the exam has changed considerably, as there are now 45 MCQ's worth 70 marks and 5 Multi-Task 6 Mark questions, so they're testing a wide scope of the syllabus.

The verification process really didn't take long, my exemptions were offered in just a couple of days. I can't seem to find the link to pay for them though?

Best of Luck with your preparation!
