Should I start Level 4 without Level 3?

Hi All,

I have recently completed level 2 of AAT and found this pretty easy to get through and a helpful foundation.
I am wanting to end up studying ACCA and wonder if I should skip level 3 of AAT, just do level 4 to get some more understanding and be exempt from F1-F3 of ACCA?

Thanks :)

Sasha

    Hi

Level 3 will build on what you know from level 2. The costing unit in level 3 is a more detailed version of what you cover at level 2, but the other level 3 modules will introduce much newer topics and will prepare you for level 4.

Level 4 assume you have the knowledge from level 3 and it will be quite a big leap without having done level 4.

Thanks Neil :) I will probably end up doing Level 3 before hand then but try and fast track these. I ideally want to do ACCA now but think it's wise to have AAT as a foundation and qualification

    Hi Sasha
I would say it depends on your previous experience in accounts and how motivated and confident you are as a learner.

I suppose you could just get the L3 books and work through them then have a go at L4.

I really enjoyed self-studying my way through L3 and am equally enjoying L4 as a distance learner (though to be honest I think I could have self-studied). But I'm not from an accounting background and I'm in no great rush to complete so enjoying doing things slowly and steadily.

    Good luck

I would definitely recommend doing level 3 first, think it will be hard to go straight to level 4. Level 2 is fairly basic but I think the biggest jump is from level 2 to 3. X

Thanks everyone for your help and comments :) I am going to carry on with Level 3 first now to make sure I fully complete all the AAT levels. Plus, I spoke to ACCA and they said completion of Level 4 means I am exempt from 3 of the ACCA exams x

Yes, you will be exempt from F1-F3. Each exemption will cost you around £100 though, so be ready for that haha.

That doesn't surprise me. It's an 'admin' fee apparently.

    Hi

    Have a look at forums.aat.org.uk/discussion/35817/dont-pay-acca-exemptions-fees

Exemption fees aren't as clear as they once were, something to do with AAT and ACCA F1 - F3 forming nationally recognised qualifications.

I remember reading that thread. The person on the phone when I registered denied to me that any such situation exists. I had to pay.

just a quick question about ACCA, Can you sit more than one paper during the exam period ? : such as 2 papers in December.

Yes, you can. There are now 4 sittings a year but the max number of exams sat per year has not changed so you can spread them out a little more.
